I was on the highway doing about 70-85mph in my 96 hoe today and I noticed that my abs light came on. It has never been on and I have never even locked up my wheels since my brakes dont have the balls to even stop my truck. I havent noticed any change in the way the brakes feel or anything but I am worried about it. What could be wrong and should I get it checked out immidiately or can I check it out myself??

Check the connector on the wheel bearing. Its a cable that runs from the wheel bearings and it should be underneath the wheel well guard on the front. (Both tires) Disconnect it and check for corrosion, and if there is any clean it and see if that helps. Depending on how old the wheel bearings are and how many miles they have on them, you may need to replace them. But it's an easy job. They're really not cheap, but you could probably do it yourself.

And to add to it today I was driving at night with my windows down in the cool air and I noticed a slight clicking noise that sounded like it was coming from the front end. It would increase with speed and would go away if I applied any pressure to the brakes at all and would come back when I let off. I have never heard it before and it may be totally unrelated but i thought that i would add that. I will check out the connections tomorrow after I get home from school. Thank you!

You have an OBDII system so you can go to autozone and have them check it for free. Not sure it will work with an ABS light though.

The code readers at autozone won't read ABS codes. You will need to have someone with a scanner look at it. With the right computer they can go in and theirs will show exactly what the ABS system is doing to throw the code. If they know what they are doing they should be able to pin-point the problem.

I got the codes scanned today. It looks like my left front abs sensor and rear center speed sensors are not working. They quoted me $370 in parts. How much do those damn things cost?? Are they hard to replace?

ABS Light

Could be a wheel speed sensor. Mine did that recently and the part was about 35 from the dealer and the light went away.
