Sometimes when I roll down the drivers’ side window it won’t roll back up. If I open the door and slam it shut then the window will roll up. I popped the cover off the power window bittons to see if there were any loose wires on the back but the wires all go into plugs that plug into the controls. I’ve also noticed that you can’t roll the windows up or down when the door is open. Could it be related to whatever controls that or more likely is something going out in the switch? Ideas?

Had the same problem with my 2001 not to long ago. I checked all the connections and finally came down to the conclusion that it was a Window Motor. Had to buy a new one and replace it. Cost me about $255 from the local GM Dealer for the motor. Did all the install myself.

Thanks for the feedback but NOT what I wanted to hear.

Now I can add power window motor to my list of intake manifold gasket, odometer/gear selection display repair, fuel pump, trailer brake.

Could be a bad wire in the door jamb boot. Hold the window switch up (or down) and wiggle the boot while the door is open and see if the motor operates.

All the other window controls in the drivers door work when the drivers door is open, it seems like the drivers window wouldn't wouldn't work for quite a while when the door was open, I figured it was a safety feature of some kind. If so, wiggling the wires with the door open won't tell me anything.

HOWEVER, NEW PROBLEM. shit, this just doesn't get any better does it. Now the power door lock in the drivers door won't work. Both the actual button on the door as well as the remote lock on the key fob won't lock or unlock the drivers door. All the other doors lock and unlock just fine.. HELP!

So how do I go about diagnosing whether or not it's the window motor? Can I take the door apart and check with a volt meter or something?
