My '08 Tahoe drops from 14v to around 12v once I'm cruising. The dealership says that it is because I have the 160a heavy duty alternator. Has anybody else experienced this?

Note:
I do not experience any of the normal issues that you would see with a voltage drop. I only know it's happening because there is a gauge in front of me.

That sounds normal to me. If you are at cruise with not alot of electrical load the gauge will only show 12v. It is a 12v system. It will read high under load to keep the battery charged. As long as you do not drop below 12 too mutch you shouldn't have a problem.

I worked in 12v aftermarket for many years. It just seemed odd that the voltage would be higher at idle then when driving. It's really too bad that I can't trust a dealerships service department.
