Is it normal to only have a single beep when using the backup sensors? The light indicators on the rear pillar progressively light up but there is only one audible beep when the first light comes on.

Mmm, these nnbs reverse sensors aren't very good in general. The beeps don't really chime progressively as you back up ... sometimes I'll get one beep sometimes I'll get one then nothing, then it will go nuts when I'm right up against an object. But usually I will get more than one so there might be an issue for you there. 
I don't even pay attention to it any more and just use the reverse camera.
