So this post is about 2 1/2 months overdue, I've had a pretty heavy semester. On the difficulty scale, only because of the tools I used, I would say that this is about a 7. It doesnt require much skill, but you will need a grinder and a drill.

This is a pretty unprofessional way to do this, but I have had no major issues. In fact, the ONLY issue I have had is within the past few days, there there has been like 2 inches of ice on the road, and after people drive on it with chains and studs it makes it really bumpy and the bulbs bounce a bit inside the casing. I have noticed that all the trucks I've seen that would fit the same bulbs have the same issue.

One thing I might to differently if done again, is I would silicone around the bulb itself before i put it in, because it isnt an exact fit. But like I've said, I'm satisfied and there have been no problems so I'm not changing these.

(This was quoted at $900 at a ****** local place named performace or something, for the lights, HID, halo wiring, and retrofit. hahahahahahaha)

Before any work, projector removed from new headlights

The light "restrictor"

I took a 1/4 bit and drilled as many holes as I could
picture.jpg

Used a 3/4 wood dowel that I had laying around and hit the piece out with one end and a hammer, THIS SIDE UP WHEN YOU DO!

The HID bulbs will not fit, so you will need to grind them like this. If done again, I would have used blue painters tape around the bulb to protect from dust, but I've had no issues....

This side as well....

Take out the light restrictors and grind them down like this, the bulb is too long to fit if you dont
picture.jpg

Slide the bulb in, and you can put the little wire bulb holder to work. Put the bulb in at the proper angle and put the wire thing around it, bend it until it latches. This light is ready for install.

EDIT* This light is not ready for install, there is a little black housing thing that needs to be reattached to the head before install

I was going to post my LED and halo install too, but I forgot to take pics. My solder job was horrible haha, I'm going to re-do my leds and halos with new CCFL halos when I do my driving light LED conversion

Finished product........lets see the biters come out en masse! Haha I love it

That is going to ruin the beam pattern. The "light restrictor" was made that way for a reason. Removing it is just going to blind everyone! I would suggest something better than this...

Where did you get your bulbs from?
I have the exact same housing and my DDM's fit just fine length wise. I did have to grind the opening where the bulbs slide in since it didn't fit, but they weren't too long.

Also, like kses said, removing that restrictor pretty much turns it into a halogen reflector with a pretty piece of glass on the front. Seems like a waste to buy the housing when you could have just put it in the OEM housing and added some Halos yourself with the same effect. But, to each his own.

Good job on the write-up though. Nice pictures and none of them super blurry. (Blurry pictures kill me)

Haha no doubt there. Suggest all you want, I did. It worked. Feel free to revise and repost. "Ruin", you mean take away half the output. I personally think its hilarious to watch what some people do when I'm behind them with my lights on. This one guy was obnoxiously making shadow puppets in his mirror, taking a piece of 8 1/2"x11" sheet of paper and folding it over his mirror. Followed him all the way to my (and his apparently) son's daycare and when I walked in with him he said "You know your lights are obscenely bright?" and I said "Obscene is a gross exaduration, they help" to which he replied "Well, they dont help me". I understand where he's coming from, but I'd rather have projectors with HIDs in my rearview than ones with standard "ridged" plastic diffusion, not to sound arrogant, but its annoying and they look tacky. I think the output from projectors with light restrictors looks tacky too...

Ruin, no. Give me way more of my lumens. Yes. Annoy other drivers? Yes. Help emmensely in blinding snowdrifts? F*ck yes.

HIDGuy, I wrote up a review in their thread area. Kit was good and all, some parts missing. But one thing I have noticed is that there is like a yellowish spot in the middle left of my passenger side bulb output. I think what this might have to do with is the restrictors not being ground to the same size, so whereas my drivers side is fine, the passenger side is allowing a different portion of the light spectrum to be exposed, illuminated from the bulb, causing a different purportion of the rainbow to shine through.

EDIT*

Respectfully, I have to disagree completely. The two arent even comparable. There would have been no black background, the two single LEDs, and no projectors. I'll post some pics tonight of them on at night once it gets dark (Which should be like 3:30 f'ing winter)

This was because I ordered HIDs and projectors, got the HIDs first, put them in my stock, and then received the heads only to find out that the HID bulbs didnt fit. I wasnt going to go without either. HIDs were $100 and lights were $150. When I get my new CCFL heads, I am just going to switch the projectors and sell these on craigslist

so you turned your halogen low beams into HID highbeams? You knowingly blind oncoming drivers?........This is not good and should not be replicated
