Does anyone have any experience with both companies? If so, how do they compare? MJ seems legit. BB is probably the most popular tune in all of the forums. MJ also has the Autocal device and is about $60 cheaper. I've read their articles and posts and feel confident they will tune my truck correctly. It just seems odd to me that if MJ can provide the same service that BB does, and is $60 cheaper, why more people don't use them or why don't I read more from their customers?

Because they are just now entering the Forum scene unlike other tuners who are on virtually every chevy/gmc website that google can find.

Web forums are free advertising, but the company must put forth the effort to utilize it.

Web Forums are not free advertising. You have to pay to be a sponsor. Someone posting and making recommendations are free if that is what you meant but that can be a risk too.

I would go with Black Bear even if they are $60 more. This is not to say MJ Engineering won't do a great job but BB has a great reputation on all of the 9 forums they sponsor and have a LOT of experience tuning GM vehicles especially trucks. The only negative I have ever heard is they can get very busy and sometimes are a little slow to respond to Emails. I have a BB tune and very happy with it.

Hey guys,

Blackbear has plenty of experience and knowledge and has many happy customers throughout the years. I know first hand how difficult it is to please people with their vehicles and so I give credit where it is due.

I have been tuning for years as well as wrenching on basically every type of performance GM out there. I worked for one of the most established tuners in the area and learned a lifetime of skills from him. From then on I graduated to run my own business which has continued to grow locally and now online.

I was schooled at Cornell University and UMASS Amherst Engineering, I have extensive background in high level engineering and have worked on many large civil engineering projects in the state of Mass. I however have found much more enjoyment from working one on one with customers and their vehicles and am still young so I try to enjoy the freedom this allows me.

I specialize in local tuning where I can physically service your vehicle. Many times when I am tuning a vehicle we need to pop the hood or get under it or at the very least run many tests before I call my job "done." This takes a VERY long time to do remotely and the customer needs to be aware of this.

I purchased the AutoCal units for a few customers of mine now who live far away and want me to keep an eye on their setups while they travel to race tracks. I can easily tune a stock vehicle with one but again I always suggest to find a local guy like me who can give you the time and quality service you deserve for the high price charged.

As always feel free to reach me at 508-320-6807

Do you guys have any Autocal devices now? I live in FL so I obviously can't do an in-person tune so Autocal is my only option.

Yes we do! Feel free to call any time! Thank you for your interest.

Also I would like to mention as it was asked:

If we specialize in servicing in-person clients why are we on these global forums?

The first and foremost reason we are here is to GIVE BACK to the community which gave so much to me when I was first starting and didn't know anything! We offer FREE advice and technical information currently unavailable in one single place on the web. We also have a video series in development and firmly believe the more informed someone is the happier they are!

We can service far away customers as well and have a proven record of doing so! Even for full race engines and entirely custom builds. As always we suggest dyno time after the vehicle is completed, many people trailer long distances to use our dyno.

Keep in touch, as always feel free to call any time!
