Sup guys,
I thought I'd share this episode with you, both the good and the bad, so you can plan accordingly next time you consider purchasing Eagle Eyes G4 tails or any other Eagle Eyes product.
I originally bought a set of EE G5s from ebay seller Revotec and there were zero problems with either the transaction or the parts themselves. In fact I sold the G5s to another member here, and so far as I understand it, he is very happy with them.
Then I decided to swap to G4s ... so I bought another set from Revotec. Again the transaction went smoothly and the tails worked great ... for a couple of weeks.
A couple of weeks ago I discovered that one of them (driver's side) was not sealed properly, started fogging, and eventually water started to pool at the bottom where the back up bulb is.
So I contacted Revotec and he sent me a replacement set free of charge. I received them yesterday and installed them today. Low and behold the driver's side was hyper flashing. Swapped resistors (grey box) from one of my old G4 tails and the problem persisted. Basically it was defective.
So now I had two sets of Eagle Eyes G4s ... one with the driver's side that flooded, and one with the driver's side that was hyper flashing.
Nothing that can be done other than to return both the first and second set and buy something else. (I want to keep the G4 look so I've ordered a set of Anzo G4s hoping for better quality control)
So the two important lessons learned here:
1. Ebay seller revotec is an honest seller who stands behind his product. We must have exchanged 50 emails and he always responded promptly and tried to do whatever he could do on his end to resolve the problems.
2. Eagle Eyes product and quality control is shit. You might be getting a set that works for years with no issues, or you might get many sets in a row that don't work right or aren't built right. They do not have a consistent product and proper working parts come down to the luck of the draw.
I'll let you know what happens with the Anzos ... they are basically double the price so I'm hoping they work without any issues.
I wish there were an oem solution for the look I want my truck to have ... not that GM never issues defective parts but at least I can pop over to a dealership and have any issues sorted out in a few minutes.
Anyhoot ... that's what happened.
