Hey guys, I tried a search and didn't find an answer to my exact question so I was going to see what you guys thought. I have an 05 Yukon Denali and the fuel gauge doesn't work due to the fuel level sensor being bad apparently. I had the mechanic that ran the code and figure this out tell me that I would need to replace the whole fuel pump since this is part of the fuel pump. I just found a replacement fuel level sensor by itself online for my truck for 60 bucks. Would I be able to pull the fuel pump and replace just the fuel level sensor without having to replace the whole fuel pump? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The entire assembly has to come out to replace the sensor so I can understand recommending replacing everything. I wouldn't try to replace the sensor without replacing the other components. To much work for too little, especially when the pump is likely to go out shortly after you get it all back together.

yep.. and dont buy an Airtex one.. I did. and im sorry i did.

What happened with the one you got Mike?

Thanks for the input guys. I guess it is a good point that since a new fuel pump assembly can be bought for around 200 bucks it would just make more sense to replace the whole thing while you're in there.

I replaced mine with the airtex one... b/c the pump went out - and just when the warranty goes out on the new part - my fuel sending unit part takes a shit - so now I have to go by miles - not my fuel gauge until i replace it AGAIN - not with an AIRTEX one..

You get what you pay for when it comes to parts, cheaper is not always better. I had a pump go out on my tahoe, bought a cheap pump unit on ebay, and it went out about 8 months after i put it in.

My mechanic friends all recommend delphi or delco pumps. They are pricey, but last a long time.

Ever since my fuel pump went out, my gas gauge has not worked right. I'm on my second pump and my truck will be going back to the shop tomorrow again for a 3rd and I'm not having another AIRTEX put in!
I even replaced my stepper motor in my gauge cluster thinking that was the prob!!!
