In a previous thread, I asked if anyone knew where to find some flares for a 4-door Tahoe on the cheap. Just so happens, unless you find one in a junkyard, they are practically nonexistent, or they're $400 plus for a set.

Screw that.

Found a set off a 2500 series pickup, grabbed them for $40. A little ingenuity later, they are now ON MY 4-DOOR!!!

Allright, so it wasn't a whole lot of ingenuity. I just took the sawzall to the flares after I screwed them on, cut straight down the door edge. The front part of the flare is secured to the door, and is not screwed into the lip of the fender (see pic #5) - the bottom just closes over the rocker panel when the door shuts.

Next step, I'm going to use some caulk to fill the gap between the doors and the flares, give them a little more rigidity, so they won't deform. After that, I'm going to do a spray-on "bedliner" material over the whole truck, blend everything together.

Hey man that worked out great!

I like bedliner sprayed on, IMO it looks great from the door molding down,

kinda like a two tone paint job. And its great for us who off road or it even covers rust/blemishes/rock chips on the bottom of the body.

I'd also take a black paint marker and touch up your flare screws.

Planning on doing the whole truck with the spray-on material, it's got more than it's fair share of dings and dents. I use it as my work truck (as a General Contractor), and just replaced the tailgate where it was crushed (a customer backed into it in their driveway when it was folded down). The deadly cancer known as rust has started around the wheelwell trim, that's why I put the flares on - now I've just got to fab some lower door panels where they've started to rot, and do some fiberglass and bondo work.

While I intend on keeping it until it dies, I'm not going balls-out on making it look pretty. Paid $3800 for it 3 years ago, put 50K on the odometer since, and I beat the hell out of it carrying materials. I just don't want to look like the "redneck next-door" driving it around, y'know?

Oh, and the screws will be covered by screw caps, have them on the front already. Wasn't sure if I was going to have to pull the rear flares off to modify them, didn't bother with the caps yet.

Looks....good. I wanna see a full side view.

Ask and ye shall receive....

Sorry, lots of shadows from the trees along the driveway.

Opposite side, from the neighbor's yard, looking over the fence - can't tell they have a white house with black shutters, can ya?
This shot shows the rear quarter that got crunched when I was towing an Expedition with no brakes....

From the driver's front. You can see where the body molding had to come off to put the flares on, and where I'd tried Herculiner to cover below the bodyline before - that shit sucks!

And the passenger front, complete with the screw caps. I cut out the trailing edge of the fender, stretched the flare back almost 1 1/2" so that the flare almost touches the gap between the door and the fender - The 285's may still rub though.

Want to do the same GM Green when I do the spray, cover EVERYTHING but the glass. Going to get a DA sander, hit the whole truck with 100grit before I spray. Looking at using Al's Liner, found it on E-bay for under $100/gallon.
