The wifey drives a Subaru, and I recently upgraded her fog lights in the factory position to a pair of Crystal Ion PIAA 520 fog lights. They throw more light than the highbeams (Subaru has an easy fix to keep the fog lights on with the high beams). So now I'm all jealous.

I have an 05 Denali, and understand that the PIAA 510 will fit the factory fog light hole, but require some bracketry work (the subaru did too). The 510 is basically a 4-inch version of the 520 6-inch light, and the crystal ion bulbs are amazing (they somehow throw yellow light, but don't look yellow).

I also have always hated the valence under the chin on the Denali. It just looks like some engineer wanted to continue the Denali trim, but the bean-counters made him put a stupid chunk of plastic in the hole, so he threw a temper tantrum and made it as absolutely ugly as he could. I digress.

I want to put a Cree 26 inch lightbar in the place of the chin valance. So here's my question:

I want to have the Fog Lights come on as usual with the low beams by hitting the button, but when I click to high beam have the LED lightbar come on (only if the fog light circuit is active). Oh, and throw in the 4-hi mod on top of that for good measure. So basically, when I click to Hi, the low beam headlights stay on, the fog lights go off, and the LED lightbar comes on (and vice-versa).

The simple option I thought was to simply run a relay from one of the high beam bulbs to the LED lightbar, but then I cannot turn the lightbar off with the high beams if needed (from the driver's seat).

Opinions?

I like the idea of the off road lights in the fogs circle and I think I've seen it done before.
Wouldn't the light bar flick off when you turn off the high beams? Maybe just wire them separate to a switch...?
I believe there are writeups in the how to part of the forum on how to wire lows with highs or fogs etc.

The PIAA 510's are actually not necessarily "off-road" lights, depending on which model you put in. They have "pencil beams" (spot lights) to "area beam" (dispersion lens), and everything in between. I was going with the 5161 model, which is designed to be used as a fog light. Like I said in my first post, from the drivers seat, the light looks yellow, but to oncoming traffic the lights look the same shade as the headlights. Weird, I know.

Yes, I found the first and second write up threads in the forum, but they don't speak to this exact problem. surely I'm not the only guy that wants to keep the dash looking factory.

Yeah that's what I meant fog, but could you wire the new kit to the factory fog wires to use that button or is there not enough power, could use a relay?

The PIAA lights will direct replace my factory fogs, no problem, no rewiring. The problem comes in when I add the LED lightbar that only comes on when the high beams AND the fog lights are active. How to do that?

Could wire the light bar to highbeams but the fog light part could be an issue. Couldn't you use the fog button on the dash for that? Or would you splice it so the fogs get power with the highs?

There are magic black box's called RELAYS.

Get a cheap two ass DDM Tuning HID relay harness's and mod it to run your fogs off of Lows, and A seperate harness to run bar off of Highs..

This is very easy to do.

You do the 4high/6 high mod in the tech section. That will keep your lows and/ or fogs on when you turn on the high beams. Then you do as ezdaar said and run a relay harness for each.

Right, I got the relay part, and I get the 4 hi/6 hi mod. The question remains unanswered.

Lets say I did the 6-hi mod so the low beams, high beams, and fogs were on, how would the LED's know when the switch was flipped from low to hi? I can't just wire a relay to the fogs, because the LED's would always be on (low or hi), nor can I run the relay to the high-beams, because they wouldn't turn off when I hit the fog light switch.

How can I get the LED's to only turn on with the high beams and the fog light circuit activated? What wire to run a relay from?
