started off with a mysterious water leak on the driver side of my '99 yukon. so, started pulling a little bit of interior trying to figure out where it was coming from. next thing you know, all of my interior is out, and i'm trying to clean the carpet. spent most of the day pressure washing the carpet, soaping, oxy cleaning, spot remover, and after all day of cleaning on it, decided to just order new carpet. so....

ordered some new carpet, got the deluxe pile with the mass backing. fixed my primary water leak, but found 2 more. the rear barn doors were leaking like a sieve, and i had the leak on the passenger side that i didn't know about until all the carpet was out. so i ordered some new door seals (6 pc set, 4 doors + barn door surround + between the doors.

also put in an order to raam audio, got quite a bit of stuff from him. and i know people had said that he was a nice guy, that is right on the money. very very upright businessman, or at least i thought so. so, got the floor all done up with raammat, got raammat bxt and ensolite in the back doors. so far i'm liking it.

instead of getting more ensolite, for the large areas i bought some similar closed cell foam stuff called "gymnastic mat." comes in varying thicknesses from 1/8" to like 2 or 3". put in another order for some spray adhesive from raam audio again, used it to stick down the mat. put a solid layer of the 1/4 inch foam from nose to tail, some places i put 2 layers.

changed out the weatherstripping also, barn doors leak no more! and thanks to some research i did here, found out about the wiper cowl screws leaking water into the cab, so went ahead and fixed that too. but while i had that off, figured it was a great time to repaint the wiper arms and get some new blades.

funny how you can get caught up in the fixing up mode, i've really enjoyed it as much as i've loathed it. it's kinda like when i got a fixer-upper boat, was miserable with rewiring and cleaning and changing stuff, but when it was all done i was almost kinda sad. not sad like crying sad, but just like "what do i do now?"

anyhow, ordered another 2 boxes of raammat bxt II to do my headliner, gonna employ some help of one of my buddies to help me out with that. after all the sound deadening is done i wanna get an alarm put in, and put my 4 12's in. been jonesing for 4 12's for some time now. (alpine type x's) then maybe some rims, 22's or 24's, probably boss 330's or 335's or something similar, black with chrome/polished/machined lip. then maybe roll pan. but blah blah blah... i'm rambling i know.

anyhow, i encourage anyone wanting to tackle a project to grab a wrench and a screwdriver and dive in. there is a lot of gratification in doing something yourself. and there is a wealth of knowledge and experience in forums like this and general searching the net.

anyhow, i'll keep ya posted on the progress, hopefully the carpet/raammat/foam will make it really really quiet until the really really loud comes along, lol. oh yeah, the foam was really really cheap compared to the ensolite, hope it does the same job. but i will use the ensolite in the doors since it's easy to handle.

lol na i just blow all my money on stupid shit...thats why i have no money saved up. but i got a dui about 4 years ago and just spent about 7000$ just to get my permit so i can drive to work and also i get 45miles for self employment (estimates, part pick ups, junkyard runs) shit like that. so now that i can drive again i need to get my truck done by spring then ill save some money,...well maybe i will haha na i need to get money together after the trucks done so i can get my downpayment for my house im renting to own right now.

but hopefully the truck will be painted by end of the month (feb) depending on weather around here in chicago i dont want to paint it with all the snow and salt around still.... but ya i spend stupid money but i dont care i love cars and trucks, which is the reason why i do custom paint work...

plus i quit drinking a year ago this week and dont do anything but work and come home, literally so pretty much dont have any expenses besides the house bills, figure id blow my money on my truck instead of wasting a couple hundred a month on getting wasted..

got my front interior back in, still got my back seats yet to go. was wondering if the carpet was gonna tighten up but evidently when you start bolting stuff back in and putting the trim on it starts taking up the slack. i can only imagine how quiet it's gonna be when the doors and headliner are completed, but i can tell you it's MUCH quieter now already. effectively cannot hear the engine at idle. can talk in almost a whisper at 60 mph and hear one another (at least the people in the 2 front seats). looking forward to do the doors soon, the rest of my bxt II should be in tomorrow so i can tackle the headliner here soon, also. i know it's been/is a lot of work, but i think it'll all be worth it in the end. think trimming the carpet is the toughest part, it's hard to man up and start making some cuts. eventually you get it though. just takes time. keep you posted. branndon
