First problem after one year on 2018 Yukon XL Denali

It may seem like a far fetched idea, but do some research on the GM 6.6 liter "L8T" engine. It debuted in the 2020 heavy duty GM trucks. It's basically a stroked 6.2 but is built without the cylinder deactivation junk. I bought a 3 mile fully dressed L8T AND a 6L90 transmission for $7400. This...

Any update here? I am anxious to hear what the findings and resolution was.

Now at FIVE AC system failures in four weeks...

Due to your responses here, I would HIGHLY recommend a GM thermostat and GM coolant temperature sensor. Around $100 in parts, but I think these symptoms warrant this repair. Trying to justify to a dealer or warranty company why this repair should happen may be challenging, but due to the...

Now at FIVE AC system failures in four weeks...

This is likely a HUGE shot in the dark, but figured it may be worth mentioning. Does your engine temperature gauge get to, and stay right at 210 during normal operations? I am asking because the thermostat on these engines are very weak and known to fail. They get stuck partially open...

2020 Tahoe Premier Smash or Pass?

Looking at the Carfax, 2 things concern me. 1. There are oil change intervals of 12k and 16k. 2. Transmission has no record of being serviced. Having a 2015 Suburban that I just spent upwards of $13k to replace the engine and transmission on, that's why I am a stickler for those 2 things...

2016 temp gauge not working and fans running high speed

In your case, and most others, the original sensor likely never needed replaced. The way the thermostats fail in these always makes people want to target the temperature sensor. Trust me, I was one of them. Mine happened about a year ago, and I only figured out the thermostat was the issue just...

    L8t 427 Whipple charged Denali

Is the 2014 the last year of the Vortec? If so, the swap to 6.6 may prove to be a little more difficult, as the Vortec engines are port injected whereas the 2015+ 5.3, 6.2, and the L8T are all direct injected. Definitely not saying the swap is impossible, but something worth checking on.

    L8t 427 Whipple charged Denali

Unfortunately I do not. My technician worked out the small odds and ends during the install and honestly that part was such a small detail to me in the grand scheme of things, I didn't ask. I remember the guy who inspired this swap telling me about the fuel rail sensor and my technician...

    L8t 427 Whipple charged Denali

I used my L83 wiring harness and L83 ECM. The only wiring that was changed was a fuel rail sensor 2 wire to 3 wire.

2016 temp gauge not working and fans running high speed

Don't let mechanics or others over complicate this repair at the expense of your finances. Change the coolant thermostat with a GM thermostat, and disconnect battery to be sure any pending codes clear out.

    Transmission Tuning

Hello all! I wanted to hopefully spark some conversation here with prolonging transmission/torque converter life span and whether tuning should be equally recommended alongside the thermal bypass upgrade. I know that high temps seem to expedite the process of these transmissions failing...so...

    Oil Pressure

Hey guys I've got something I've been curious about and was seeking some input. As some of you may know, I swapped in a 6.6 Liter L8T engine into my 2015 Suburban last Fall. I've noticed that there are times when the oil pressure reading on my dash is maxed out during acceleration. Its more...

    Buyers Remorse?

Buyers remorse perfectly describes my experience with my 2015 Suburban. I purchased it in May 2023 with 182k miles on it for $17.5k from a pretty big Chevy dealer in Louisville, KY. Within 6 weeks the engine dropped a lifter, ruining the camshaft. During that 6 weeks, I also noticed the...
