What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Hitched it to my "new to me" 1986 Aires 176 Fish and Ski bass boat. While I love the Bermuda Blue my tahoe is, I may have to paint it like mu old ford. That way it matches the boat lol.

    Good cam?

Truck Norris cam. More average power through the whole range and only giving up power at the very top of the rpm range. In a heavy vehicle you want more low and middle torque.

    Good cam?

What are your plans for the vehicle? Towing? Racing? Just more usable power?

Problems with worn valves. Need good advice

Stock replacement head gasket should be used. Anything else has the potential to change measurements if they are not the same thickness.

Years for updated pcv valve covers?

    1. Remove valve cover 2. Clean out oil clogged ports and make them a little bigger 3. Install new pcv valve 4.Change your oil on a better schedule so the drain ports in the cover don't clog Not necessarily needed but I did on BOTH my 5.3s 5. Install oil catch can 6. Don't use the upgraded covers...

    2003 Tahoe 5.3 VIN-Z - P0300 With a Twist

If you can get a helper looking at moving rockers is easier. Remove coil packs and valve covers and pull the fuel pump relay. Have helper crank the engine while you watch rockers. Look for any that aren't moving a whole lot, or seem to have slop. Otherwise, use a socket and breaker bar to rotate...

    External trans filter?

Cool. Thinking about doing it too, and found this thread in a search. So I figured I would ask. How does it seem to be doing?

Those look to be in very good condition. I am glad you were able to find a good set.

    2003 Tahoe 5.3 VIN-Z - P0300 With a Twist

Something is wrong with the wiring, O2 sensors or tune. If the ST trims are always zero either they are not reading the change ( not good) or they aren't changing...and idk how that is possible without it being a tune issue. Can you flash back to the stock everything tune and see what happens...

Shorty headers worth it for 5.3?

Very welcome. I hate for folks to spend money that isn't going to get them what they think it should.

Shorty headers worth it for 5.3?

They are worth 3hp and 3tq on a 4.8..... so let's say they are worth 4.5hp/tq on a 5.3. Header test Long tubes are the only way to go when naturally aspirated or supercharged. And stock manifolds go well into the 800s with a turbo. They are well designed.

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

out with the old and in with the new. Fairly surprising they lasted this long. I had to do the Silverado 6 years ago.

Perhaps a 4 wheel alignment would point to the problem

Problems with worn valves. Need good advice

I don't think a complete engine disassemble in required. I would just remove the heads and repair them. Or if you can find some already machined or remanufactured heads. Remove yours and put the new ones in their place. With new gaskets of course. But I don't think a total rebuild is needed. It...

I may have missed it, but what oil filter are you using?

    LQ4 refresh...looking for guidance

SSR was "light at 4600ish lbs", therefore the engine loads were not what you would see in a "heavy" suv. You would be more likely to spin the tires than to load the engine to a point it would knock. The TBSS and Saab had the e38 computer that has far more processing capabilities than the P01...

    LQ4 refresh...looking for guidance

On a toy/race application it is fine. On a heavy truck/suv I wouldn't do it. You would see some tq advantages but unless you plan on running E85 for the 106 octane it had, ALL THE TIME the extra compression is not worth it. The 706s are worth about 12 lb ft of torque. If you need that much, a...

    LQ4 refresh...looking for guidance

If the oil analysis looks good, I wouldn't do anything to the engine. Doing this economically, under $1000, you are going to be a few hundred into getting the LQ4 tune swapped over to your ecm most likely. And any performance parts are going to eat up the rest really fast. Don't quote me on it...

There are no adjustments on the rear axles. There is a serious problem if just the inside part of the tire is worn. Possibly a bad bearing, or a bent axle tube. How long have you had this vehicle? Have you taken it off road or struck a curb?

    LQ4 refresh...looking for guidance

For a 1000 bucks? If the oil analysis and compression check come back alright.... put an oil pump oring in it, rear main seal, exhaust bolts( can be done with heads on the engine) if needed and that is it. Well...what year is your Suburban? You may need to swap the intakes to keep the cable...

My current fuel trims - idle, 2000rpm, 3000rpm all no load

I am not sure how often samples are taken for short term trims. And the long terms are the average of the shorts, again not sure when they are moved from ST to the LT file. Are you in a relatively flat area or have some hills? Could be that you are on and off the gas enough that it enriches more...

    Good cam?

Are you talking 400 wheel or 400 crank? With just long tubes and a good tune a stock LQ4 should be close to 400 crank. How to make 400hp with a gen 3 truck engine jump to 11:40 for the 6.0 stuff. Now this is an LQ4 and with headers and a good tune ( and minus accessories) it made over 400hp...
