Evening all,

Just picked up a 07 Yukon Denali and discovered that the fuel door spring is in need of a replacement. Trying to get the fuel door open is a PITA and once opened I noticed the door spring is all loose not allowing the "pin" in the middle to be compressed all the way and release the door when pressed.

Does not seem to be a hard replacement but wondering if anyone has ever done it and could give some pointers on how it's done?

GM part number for the fuel door spring is 20912532 and looks like so:

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Mine sits a little funny. I live in Oregon, so I don't pump my own gas. Makes me wonder how one works.......

Hope to see a follow up.

Had the chance to replace the fuel door spring tonight. First off, the part # I listed above is the # I ordered and it DID work on my 07 Yukon Denali.

It's obvious they made some changes to this part or maybe just for newer models so they made the appearance more appealing for newer years. Either way, it's more "eye pleasing" than the OEM '07 unit if those type of things matter to you.

On the replacement, I managed to do it from right at the gas door. Opened the door, wiggled the spring around to where I could get a small flat head in and press down one of the holder tabs, got the top side out, pulled the stem and it came out. One part came out of the gas door and one piece came out from under the car. The piece from under the car is like a sleeve that covers the spring and pin in the part and contains the holder tabs. I may have been able to take this piece apart and clean it out, grease it up, and have it working again. Mine just seemed as if the holder tabs on top and bottom became worn out and allowed too much play in the piece.

She is fixed now and I can successfully open and close my fuel door without any headaches.

No, not a detailed replacement but then again it was straight forward. Get it to the open position, get top or bottom side out, pull the black pin that would open the gas door and pull the entire assembly free from the "sleeve" that will fall out of the back.

Hopefully this helps somebody!

Thanks guys!
