Hi everyone i am a new member. I was just offered a 2002 Yukon Denali. It has a front differential issue likely bearing or even replace and a wheel bearing assembly issue. what i am asking is . do you know of a site that shows cost to repair or even video on replacing it. i will likely have mech do it but i just wanted to watch . lol i was told roughly 1000 bucks to do the work on differential not sure about bearing though.

Hi there.

I am in same situation. Ill be doing the work myself. my quotes are 1400$ canadian.

Long story short, there are "lock tabs" inside the diffs that hold the carrier bearings to the right preload setting. often the lock tabs fail. which leads to the carrier bearing failing.

here are some threads you can read, and if you want to attempt the replacement, a few videos.

Not sure about the front wheel bearing, though i would expect them to be a piece of cake compared to the front diff job.

the last one is most detailed

part2 should be on right side of the screen.

that is everything i have found in terms of guides.

here are a few places to buy "bearing kits".
master bearing kits have more parts.

I do not know if my 06 denali xl has the "shoulder" on the front pinion bearing. once i get that sorted, im ordering the bearing kit.

this just in

OK, I'm thinking of trying to rebuild my diff this way, the easy way I found this over on GM trucks dot com forum. there was a guy there who suggested just opening the diff replacing the carrier bearings, while checking lock tabs.

I don't know if I'm shooting myself in the foot or creating more future work doing this but I figured it would be the easiest thing to try.

here is what he wrote:

The pinion bearing will be ok; no need to mess with this bearing or its setting

Your bearings that failed are your carrier bearing

Take the front diff down, disassemble, and clean out everything

Replace 2 carrier bearings. Ring and pinion will also be ok. Check side adjuster lock tabs, but don't mess with the side adjusters.

Reassemble, fill diff with 2 quarts synthetic, and install. Then you are good to go.

Go to a GM dealer. Get 2 carrier bearings, a couple tubes of "Red" anaerobic sealer, and 2 qts diff fluid.

Everything will be in stock.
