My rear bumper managed to find a retaining wall last week and now I am trying to find the best way to fix it. GM wants $700 plus just for the bumper and the right side plastic step pad is another $150. Needless to say I am not planning on going with a factory bumper and am trying to find an aftermarket one that is not a POS. There are so many out there but I was hoping someone here may have purchased one before and can chime in.

I also stopped by a small body shop today who had repainted my front end last year and they seemed to think they could straighten out the bumper. They quoted me $450 for everything minus the plastic. I am hesitant to do this because I can't imagine it coming out looking right.

Doesn't look like your plastic step piece is brokn, looks like it just popped out it clips to the bumber. I'd try removing the plastic piece take your body tool aka a hammer push bumper back down and into shape snap plastic back on. Then might have to paint bumper to get rid of scratches and what not. I say this cause I had a similar problem with my nali rear bumper, parking lots suck, anyways plastic piece is retarded money ended up not being broken just a tab or two underneath. Used a hammer on bumper straightned it out looks great!

Already took the plastic pad off and it could be saved but it does have a big scrape on the corner. With the pad off you can really see how bad the bumper and the right mounting bracket are damaged. It's hard to tell but the bumper is also dented where the scrape is.

Don't know why this pic is upside down but you get the idea.

Pick one up already painted on Craigslist, eBay or the scrap yard. That's what I would do.

Well that is the problem. The aftermarket black one's you see on ebay and at aftermarket part suppliers are really coated with a black primer and will still need to be painted to look right. I can get a new bumper like that for $200 but I have heard that many aftermarket bumpers are crap and I don't know how to tell whats good and whats not. I am looking for a used one but so far cant find one that the seller doesn't want an arm and a leg for. The factory bumpers actually go for a lot as well. I don't understand why this simple part is so much money.

Did the bumper get into the Rt quarter panel? I would stay away from the shop that quoted $450 that sounds like a hack job...

You should be able to get an aftermarket assembly for a lot less then just have then spray the bar black. Where are you located? I already left our shop for the weekend but I can find out Monday what an aftermarket assembly goes for, pads and all. The ones we typically use have great fitment

I wrapped my wife's front and rear bumpers with black vinyl for 80$. You could find a chrome bumper used on CL for 100 +/- and go that route. That's what they go for around here. You may not like that option but just throwing that out there! I would think you could do it for less than 200$!

I appreciate all of the response guys. It did unfortunately hit the quarter panel but it only caused a minor ding which I am not even considering getting fixed. I too am concerned with letting someone repair my bumper but they seemed confident that I would be happy with the result. The vinyl idea is interesting but I think I would rather it be painted.

And fiatdale I am located in GA and would appreciate it if you could recommend a a bumper that would fit the factory plastic step pads. I have not been able to find aftermarket gray step pads. I have only seen the black ones and since I only need one I don't mind getting it from GM.

Whats really messed up about this is my rear bumper and step pads were replaced with all new GM parts five months ago at u-hauls expense.
