03 yukonxl...gonna be getting some $$$ in afew weeks, and will really like to get a retrofit done. either by myself or have it done for me. im trying to build a list price in exactly what ill need.
1.either some depo headlights or some oem denali headlights.
2. the projectors, i have no idea yet. someone recommend these to me.
http://www.theretrofitsource.com/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=3181 . how do the high beams work on these since their bi-xenon? when i flip the high beam switch on will these and the oem high beams turn on?
3. hid kit. will i need a whole new kit? the low beam is a 9006, so i assume i will need some adapter for the 06 to what ever bulb the new projector will use?
my main concern is which projector to use. gonna do this once and want it done right.
I'll answer in the order they came:
1. Either will do the trick. Really no wrong answer on that part, I'd just go with the best deal you can find.
2. The Mini's are definitely a good projector, but they aren't the best and are made for hard to fit retro's. We're lucky with Denali's in that we have a good deal of room to retro into. You can use about any projector, really, just depending on what you want and how much cutting, trimming, and fabbing you're up for. TSX work great because they are almost a perfect fit as they come. There is very little extra work that has to be done. Downside to that is they are low-beam only. If I was going to try a bi-xenon retro in my Denali, I would probably go with the FX-R's. The diameter of the lens will fit in the existing projector slot with no cutting, so it seems like it wouldn't be too bad. That said, it can be a whole different ball game once you get started and see what really has to be done....lol.
You can wire your high-beams however you want. Basically, when you install them you can decide how you want them to work and go from there. You can have all of them light up or just the bi-xenons. Check the 4- and 6-high mods, too, in the tech section. Very simple and VERY cheap way to get all of your lights on at once with high-beams on. The highs in the bi-xenons are crazy simple, really. Inside there's a cutoff shield that controls how much light gets through. When you flip to highs, a tiny solenoid moves the shield to allow more light through.
3. If you have no HID's at all yet, then yes, you will need a whole kit. I recommed a wiring harness (also known as a relay). This just gives your lights a direct connection to the battery. The kit should plug directly into your existing wiring for turning on/off. Everything else from there is different than an 9006, but it won't matter since your power source is plugged into the same connection as the 9006's power. It'll go from there into your ballast, then from the ballast to the bulb, which will be a D2S. Feeling confused yet? It's ok...it's not nearly as complicated as it might sound. Basically you just plug things into the only they will fit and you're good. Since it sounds like you do need the whole kit, and are thinking about ordering from TRS, I'd call Matt and order a complete retrofit kit. Don't quote me on this, but if you call him and talk about what you want/need and then order from him he's known for lopping a bit off the total price.
Good luck, have fun, and feel free to ask questions. My build link is in my signature if you're interested.
