Once you have the DIC you can scroll to INST ECON which shows realtime mpg. That screen also shows V4/V8 mode.

Exactly right, you need to install DIC buttons. Better to disable AFM, then you won't need to see which mode you're in!

Trying to get under 3mpg. Did a range of throttle conditions that would normally trigger V4, but it stayed in V8 as desired. -
