External audio source issues / ideas? (HDMI, USB A/C)

Has anyone had any luck adding an external audio source such as a CD, bluray or DVD player to the front USB ports (a or C) besides a USB drive that is FAT32 formatted? If so, what product worked in the 2024?

I have added a DVD player to rear HDMI, but then it seems there is also no way to play the audio from HDMI through the vehicle. Has anyone had any luck with that either?

Just to clarify - my understanding is there are differences in the 21/22 models as well as the 23 and the 24 models in terms of what's compatible in the USB port and what plays in in the rear entertainment system. I am specifically asking about 2024, not earlier models.

Can you back up and explain what exactly you’re trying to accomplish? Are you playing a video output to the rear screens but want audio to the whole car speakers not headphones?

I am trying to play audio CDs. Anyone know if it is possible to do that?

With all due respect, I think the answer is likely no...and honestly, in 2024, can't imagine having a portable CD player and a bunch of CD's in the vehicle when there are a lot of options that will accomplish the same thing, easier and more efficiently. My experience w/ portable CD/DVD players in a vehicle is not stelar either (skips, jumps, pauses due to road vibration).

It is relatively simple to rip your CD collection onto a USB Storage Device (aka "Flash drive") and plug that into the USB port (Rip Once, copy as may times as you want). Or rip them to AppleMusic and store them in your iPhone.
Alternatively, subscribe to Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, etc...
Spotify, Amazon Music, and YouTube music can all run natively in your infotainment system (or use them from a connected Android or Apple Device).
Apple Music will require an iPhone.

Of course, if you have some self made CD's, or unpublished work on CD that isn't available on these services, you are going to have to go w/ the rip method.

The issue with this is that a driver or passenger cannot browse or even use voice or hey google commands to select a new song on the USB drive if the options aren't on the screen while you are driving. We also listen to some music that isn't available on Apple Music, etc. We take road trips to lacrosse tournaments and camps that are in the middle of nowhere on the east coast, so oftentimes internet isn't available for streaming music either.

You can import CD’s with into an iPhone using Apple Music on a computer that has a CD drive. Then sync to your phone…and you can browse your library or hey siri to your hearts content…
