I understand these suvs are made the way they are for a reason. But we can obviously modify to make things better.
I am wondering if the y can be taken out and have true dual exhaust. Manifold to cat to muffler on each side. I know space is limited.
Can that be possible? Does there need to be a y or x for flow ? Would performance be affected positively or negatively?
I'm also not a fan or the pipe being flat and over the trans pan. My Tahoe is lifted 7" and no issues with clearance so the "flat" pipe isn't beneficial for me.

An X pipe at minimum is what I would suggest of you wanted to run true duals. There is exhaust balancing that happens with an Y or X pipe. Plus, true duals with no cross pipe of any kind can sound stupid, or like a 4 banger if one side is muffled (side exit tips are usually prone to this, straight out the back not so much).

Would you know where an x pipe should be located? Maybe take out the y and replace with an x and go back from there?
Right now I have a 3" black widow muffler with a turn down. It replaced my stock muffler. It's the sound I like. Nice rumble at idle and aggressive at wot. Not too much of an unbearable drone.

I’ve ran full exhaust on every truck I’ve ever owned. Personallly I delete the cats but I have friends who just runs smaller high flow cats
My current setup on my Tahoe which is the same frame as yours is
1 7/8” speed engineering Longtubes
3” true duel X pipe
Karnage performance exhaust “double d equalizer loop” to even out the passenger side where the driver side crosses over the transmission (there isn’t really a way around that sadly)
3” pipe
Corsa pro resonators
And 7x18” axle dumps
Fit was perfect on the headers and x pipe setup from speed engineering
Sound is insane the x pipe and loop really took a lot of frap and pop out and cleaned it up a lot so it sounds more so like a Camaro

Any decent muffler shop could make one for you pretty easily.1724628669965.jpeg1724628709396.jpeg1724628738694.jpeg1724628751309.jpeg1724628767874.jpegcant find the pic of how it’s ran over the axle
The speed engineering clamps suck I had most the joints welded up minus the x pipe to the headers so when I serviced the transmission I could get the pan off easily but on my truck it’s got a leak on the driver side header collector so i need to have that welded up if the time comes I’ll just cut it with a sawzaw and throw buddy another 20$ to put a bead around it again

That looks legit! There's a pretty reputable shop by me, I'll hit him up about the equalizer. What does yours look like.?
Mine dumps under the 2nd row. I had a gibson cat back on it before going over axle, wasn't impressed. So I'll keep before the axle. The gibson sounded pretty good tho.

With the no cats going before the axle could stink up the inside of the cab pretty bad that’s why I ran mine towards the hitch facing back a lil bit
Before I got the tail pipes made up I could definitely smell the exhaust I wouldn’t recommend it
