It is most likely not correctly wired. In the Escalate it is wired to pin 21 on the harness connector which is “Run Crank Ignition Voltage 1”. In aftermarket, it is often connected to pin 28 “Inadvertent Power Control” where normally the center console light would be connected to. You also have to take care of pins 6 for the switch on/off LED, and pin 41 for the backlight. They are usually connected to the BCM, but connecting them to 12V would make them, albeit not automatically dimmable with the rest of the illumination in the car.
