Just bought a brand new RST about 5 weeks ago and noticed on a cold start it has this ticking sound, it will go away once warm but was wondering if this is normal or do I need to take the truck to the dealer? The truck only has 395 miles hoping they don't have to tear into it this soon:(

Thanks,
DW

I notice that all these engines make extra noise at startup, I hear it in mine, I hear it on other people's Tahoes, and even hear it on videos where people capture cold startup exhaust sound (been researching new exhaust and watching lots of videos), but that video you posted is making an extra tick I'm not familiar with. It's the slower tick sound in your video that is new to me, not the really fast rattle sound, which is the one I referred to and think is normal on all newer Tahoes, but that slower tick with a more random cadence sounds odd to me. I'm not a wrencher by any means, just adding my observation as an owner, so hopefully someone with more knowledge chimes in.

Same on my Yukon, went to dealer they provided me with a TSB that shows a known issue with noisy startup due to enviromental regulations the catalytic converter has to heat up upon start something along those lines.

Did yours sound like mine with the out-of-rhythm ticking noise? I had to pick my wife's vehicle up from the dealership last night, and I spoke with the shop foreman. He told me that it sounded like bad lifters to him. Do you have the TSB #, by chance?

Sorry i glossed over the video the firs ttime, mine has a squeaking sound for like 30 seconds and then goes away almsot sounds like a belt. Yours does sound more mechanical in the engine area.

DW -- I'd say that my '23 Denali sounds pretty similar.

I’d take it in. That doesn’t sound like valve train noise as it’s frequency is to low. Atleast document that you brought it in in case something fails or gets worse later.

Thanks man, hoping it’s nothing to worry about

Dealerships are over an hour away and don’t have any loaners currently.
