Unless you're set on going to 24"s, then I'd be inclined to stick with OEM wheels if you're looking for black 22"s. That'll take all of the guesswork out of it.

...And ride comfort is always going to be a matter of taste. If the ride on these 22"s was terrible, no one would buy them, and they wouldn't be an option anymore. There's enough sidewall on the OEM 22"s that I find the ride to be really good -- and I think they definitely look better than the 20"s, too.

I changed to 20s for winter to keep the 22" rims from getting destroyed plus tire price and availability is a lot better.. you definitely notice the nicer ride quality but they do look small.

I would stick with what you got. You have 20" wheels. Your 21.5 is the outer face, not the diameter of the tire bead. For every 2 inch larger you go, the chittier the ride you get. I have 22 inch wheels and will be selling them this winter and sticking with 18 inch GM accessory wheels........the ride sucks! I have 20's on my 2nd Denali and find it to be a happy medium for ride and tire quality / price.
I would like to respectfully disagree with you on the worsening of the ride quality as you increase your rim diameter. That depends on a number of factors, including suspension quality, the quality of the tire rubber, and how well public roads are maintained. I have a cranky wife and 3 teen/adult daughters and I drive on 24's with a 35 inch tire and 3 inch lift, living in SoCal. Not once have they ever complained about the ride quality when we drive, because of the aforementioned factors. Dirt roads and sand dunes are one thing, but if it's not a part of your daily drive, there's nothing to worry about... Not even potholes.
