So the car just passed 100k miles yesterday. I’m happy about it, but also a little concerned. I have a Honda pilot I’ve been dailying, but the Tahoe looks cooler and could be good advertising for my mobile detailing biz. Only issue is, I need a reliable car for that, and I fear the Tahoe has too many known engine and trans issues to depend on for another 100k. Do you think I’m incorrect and should just start using the Tahoe as my business vehicle, or I have a point?

TLDR: how likely is it that my engine and trans will explode in the next 100k miles?

I figure there's probably more trucks over 200k on the original AFM system than there have been lifter failures..
So better than 50% odds? :p

Some of these issues, show up earlier than later when it's due to an out of spec part..

100k, running good? I say run it!
Disabling AFM should help your odds with both lifters and torque converter..

I'll have to look on the next beer run, but I think I have passed 280k now. I have the complete records of my Tahoe, down to every turn signal bulb. Original 5.3 and 6L80, I still have all the AFM parts but its been turned off in the computer for maybe 2ish years now? I'd say keep driving it! Do yourself a favor, if you haven't already found one, find a good local tuner. Get a cleanup tune for the Tahoe. No dyno tuning, just cleaning up whats there. Biggest difference I felt was transmission tuning, and preventing lockup in the lower RPM's. Made the world of difference.
