Cooling fan runs after engine shutdown

2015 Chevy Tahoe: Having same issue, changed temperature sensor, disconnected battery, reconnected battery, temperature reading on gauge, went to lunch, coming back can hear cooling fan running, temperature gauge not reading, get home shut off engine, cooling fan continues running, pull fuses, fan shuts off, reinsert fuses, fan does not come back on....

Did you see the solutions in the other thread? The thermostat seems to be a major one.

The temp was normal after the new temp sensor was installed and battery disconnected and reconnected.

In HP Tuners I can see what temp they are set at......usually self destruct mode from the factory. Temps very high

I set mine to run after shutdown for 3 min to pull off extra heat. If yours are running, you probably have a glitchy sensor that doesn't read correctly on the high end. Fans running after KEY OFF isn't going to hurt a thing until you get it fixed.

replace the sensor with a new oem one is most likely going to be the solution there is a RASH OF DEFECTIVE ONES OUT THERE, this same exact thing comes up on here once a month like clockwork

GM OE fan-on temp thresholds are part of trying to squeeze out 1 or 2 more MpG.
Hotter motor oil and ATF = less friction = 1 or 2 more MpG.

GM sets fan-on thresholds so high, that every vehicle runs cooler on the highway, even in the desert during the summer.
(This has been true since the early 90s.)
Most tuners just lower the fan-on thresholds so the vehicle's fluid temps in the city are as close as possible to temps on the highway.

Had to change the thermostat also as suggested by Fless, thanks. Thanks to additional suggestions.

the root issue here mark with these k2''s is there is a BAD rash of defective temp sensors and thermostats out there on the market, this makes the temp reading incorrect and that makes the fans run high speed 24/7 or even after the vehicle is shut off and/or the ac is turned off because it thinks there is a overheat issue or might be.
it's came up numerous times on the k2's. you can almost bet money what the problem is.
high speed fans
ac disabled
are dead giveaways
watch within the next 30 days it will be posted again......... bet $5

Here's your $5 Doubeleive. A month and a half ago, my fans turned on high speed and the coolant temp when to full scale low. When I turned off the engine, the fans stayed on for several minutes. Next time I started up, the fans came on and then went off.

My ScanGauge II said the coolant temp was normal, as was the transmission temp.

Happened again last night. I figure the likely culprit is a temp sensor telling the engine ECM that the engine is too hot. Don't know where the pertinent sensor is.

If that is what is happening, apparently there are more than one sensor, because the sensor that is reporting the engine coolant too hot is not reflected on the instrument panel coolant temp gauge.

So, I'm in the market for a 2016 GM Tahoe maintenance manual and wiring diagram manual set to research the system.

Anybody have other ideas?

bad temp sensor, your above scenario has also been repeated over and over. one thing that happens (or can happen) it is "reset's" usually either when it is unplugged or the battery is disconnected momentarily or even all on it's own then seemingly functions properly again for a few days reportedly then goes fubar again
small chance it could be the harness connector (exam it closely)
transmission temperature has nothing to do with it.
a simple google will tell you the same thing
your clue is right here--->"my fans turned on high speed and the coolant temp when to full scale low"
one way you could verify is feel the heater output, unless you are getting cold air when the vehicle is all warmed up then it's pointing right at that sensor
