If your heart is set on 20s or 22s, I say go for it. However, it's a lot cheaper to just get different tires, than to replace the wheels.
Over time, 20" tires will eventually pay for switching to 20" wheels, especially after factoring in the following:
... have a 16 Denali XL that came with factory 22s and I hung on to them until the 100K mile mark.
Then switched them out for a set of 20s w 275/60R20, and the improvement in ride was unbelievable!
I’d go as far as to say the increased sidewall was more of an improvement than when I ditched the magnaride all the way around for Arnott passive struts and shocks!
Wish I would have switched to 20s a long time ago!
His suspension will last longer.
That should also be factored into the overall cost of switching to 20" wheels & tires.

Before buying my Tahoe, I test drove several variations with 20's and 22's. In every case, the 20's had a notably better ride. It was a no-brainer going with the 20" wheels.

If I were struggling with this decision, I'd first determine which was MOST important to me: a great ride and decent looks, or great looks and a decent ride. If I were leaning toward a great ride, then I'd probably go to an 18" wheel and put some substantial tires on it. If I were leaning toward looks, I think that the 22" are the way to go (they're going to give such a better ride than the 24"s and still look really good).

Personally, I went from the stock 20"s to OEM 22"s on my '09 Tahoe, and I bought my '23 Denali with stock 22"s. No regrets on the wheels/tires size whatsoever.

So I currently have a 21 RST (Suburban) with 24 inch Niche Rims... I Love the look, but the Rims have cracked 6 (yes 6 times). I have repaired them 5 times and had to buy a new one once.

With that being said - when I built it I had never purchased any rims that didnt come with a vehicle.

Now im in the process of purchasing a new set of rims and Tires.

I am looking to see if anyone has any photos of 20 Inch Black rims on their suburban or tahoe. It was raining a few nights ago, and I hit a pot hole going around a turn at about 18 MPH (the city is going to pay for that rim), but even doing that is a pain.

Ive learned my lesson thats for sure. Here is a photo of the current rims. I just dont know what it would look like with 20s.

Thanks again
You could take a look at Tire Rack. They have an illustrator that lets you see an image of your vehicle with the wheels in which you are interested. Pretty cool.
