So

Wife has a 23 premier pretty much loaded with 33k on the clock. Sticker was 78. Bought it May of 23. Had the 6.2 bearing failure and engine replacement in June of 24 with 22k.

New engine has been fine for 11k. Wife loves the car. Drivetrain warranty for 16,000 more miles. Which the way she’s is driving lately will be late summer.

Happened across her exact Tahoe same color. Same options. Same interior. But with the 5.3. It’s a New 24. Sticker 81k. After rebates, 73k. They are offering 57k for my trade. After fees and taxes, I’m writing a check for 18k.

I haven’t gone in to try and do better, and honestly it’s not as bad as I expected. Current rig will need tires, front brakes and a detail in the spring.

I don’t really think lightning will strike twice. But I have zero intention of keeping this engine past 50k.

Long winded. But if you’ve read this far, what do you think?

Peace-of-mind is cheap.

If you’re happy with the vehicle and deal you’ve found, go for it. You could also purchase a GMPP to extend the repair coverage for additional protection.

What does your wife think?

Happy wife = happy life.

I’m also a fan of the devil you know… that truck might be new but 5.3s also are known for issues. Does she like the power and sound and would she miss the 6.2? Really a crap shoot and how much $18k is to you. No great answer on this one.

I'm a cheap ass so take it for what it's worth but I wouldn't be taking a $21k hit for only 2-3 years of "service" out of any vehicle. You could or at least come close to replacing the replacement motor twice for that. And it may never need to be replaced again.

It is your money though and peace of mind so do what makes the you and wife happy.

I don’t think you will be happy w/ the 5.3 after having the 6.2. I know I wouldn’t be. And, if you are at 33k, you have 27k more miles on your powertrain warranty. It goes to 60k

This. I was just about to make a comment that he has more warranty left.
