Hi. Is there a definitive way to tell if my 5.3 vortec is original to the chassis, like a matching VIN stamp? I bought an 07 Suburban LTZ a couple weeks ago and been fixing it up. It has 150-170 psi compression on all cylinders which seems a little too good for a vehicle with 251,*** miles. My concern is that although the top end seems in good shape I have no clue how old the bottom end on this motor is. Any tips?

On the side of the block above the oil filter. This number should match the last 9 digits of the VIN. Also, those compressions don't surprise me - these are long-lived engines - especially once you take out AFM.

07-09 motors seem to be the sweet spot, especially Denali / Esky without the AFM in the 6.2L. They’re the hidden treasures right now.

09 being the still obtainable unicorn since it runs e85 in some areas 50%+ cheaper than Prem fuel. They’re all 6.2L and still some 09 2WD Denali & Esky running around too.
