My 2011 SSV RPO code reads (AP8 -REMOTE VEHICLE STARTER PREP PKG) what does that mean? Can I get the proper key fob and have remote start work?

Yes, if there’s nothing else (codes) they done to defeat it. Do it.

According to this thread...

AP8 just means you can get remote start working, but you need an 'activation code'.. I wonder if they just flash your BCM. Apparently the 'kit' to install remote start even includes a sticker to cover your AP8 with an AP3... Someone else recently had issues getting AP8 remote start to work.. @Nutro

In the above it clarifies … “AP8 is the remote entry system but with all the provisions for the AP3 remote start option.”

I will say that Direct electronics DEI or Clifford products are good stuff. All the products they installed in my 90 VW in ‘95 are 100% backwards compatible with what they make today.

The remote start and alarm on that 5SP M VW still works flawlessly.
