I did all the research necessary to add heat to my rear (folding) bench and decided it's not worth the work.
You need the heat pad set for the seats, the heat module, the rear HVAC module, and both front and rear seat harnesses. You will also need to re-flash both the front seat module, rear seat heat module, and BCM with the correct firmware (you will need the RPO codes for those options for your model and model year)...here's where the problem comes in - dealers will not do this. You need a "rogue" programmer who both knows how to do it, and has the GlobalConnect access and an MDI. That's going to be hard to come by.
After realizing that was not going to work for me, I looked into several different ideas - you could possibly use the the add-in front seat heater kit for the GMT900 Silverado. That kit comes with a heat module, separate switch sets (so it doesn't require the rear HVAC module's buttons), and is a FRONT seat heat set...so as long as your truck comes with heated front seats, you will not need a BCM flash for it to work (the necessary code is already there). The two problems with it are this - where to mount the switches so it looks factory, and whether or not the GMLAN communication wire will allow for proper reset functionality with vehicle power cycles. IF that doesn't work, you run into the same problem you have with aftermarket kits - you have to manually turn them off. So if you only have occasional rear seat passengers, and one of them turns on the seat heater and assumes it works like every other car and turns itself off when the car turns off, you will then have that seat heater turn on every time you start your vehicle...with no one back there to detect that, you could have a seat heater on for weeks and not know it. THIS is why I decided against trying this idea.
