Brake light on dash works backwards

I know this is an old post but I wanted to circle back on this one. Although a couple of pretty good shops were stumped by this, I found a third that figured it out. They said the rear shoes were way out of adjustment and there was a rust ridge on the rear drum (or drums, not sure if one or...

    Dashboard light issue

I do, factory installed 25 years ago. Don't use it anymore - long past the time when I tow anything with the old guy. And it is a little sketchy. Definitely gonna keep an eye on it.

    Fuel Pump Relay issue...maybe?

Yeah. Only thing that makes sense to me is some kind of weird short on that test line or even in the panel itself. The next thing to see is if this resolves my p1351 issue from last year!

    Dashboard light issue

Yeah, it appears to be fixed. I guess the circuit on #9 needs to be active or the illumination doesn't do anything. If that's in the stuff east302 posted in here I totally missed it! I'm hoping it sticks and, if so, thankful I don't have to tear out the dashboard!

    Dashboard light issue

And another update... This one is a little embarrassing but the info is misleading (at least to me). I had checked fuse #14 and it was fine. For the record, hers what that fuse is for: 14 - ILLUM 10 Amp (Red) - 4WD Indicator Lamp, Cluster, HVAC Controls, Chime Module, Radio Illumination...

    Fuel Pump Relay issue...maybe?

Yep. Brand new. When I said "original" I meant the one that's supposed to go there. Bought a new 4 pin and put it in there and it seems to work fine. At least for now. We'll have to see if it holds up but the shop and I are scratching our heads trying to figure out why that would be the case.

    Fuel Pump Relay issue...maybe?

Update...see if this makes sense to anyone... With the original type 5-pin relay in for the fuel pump, major starting issues. Even worse than before. With a regular 4-pin relay (ie the same as the AC relay), it appears to work perfectly.

Is AC Delco still the "standard"?

Just picked up my relay from Oreilly. If you look up either of those part numbers from the package, 9 times out of 10, you'll see a picture of an Omron relay with the number 21997408 on it. They're all the same thing functionally (21997408, 15328865, 13503103). This is the Delphi version, made...

Is AC Delco still the "standard"?

From what I searched that IS the OE factory part, sadly. Or at least it looks like it. Everything is made in China. They get an E for presentation for sure. Did the relay work okay?

Is AC Delco still the "standard"?

This is weird... ACD - Autozone $6.59, 1 year warranty. Oreilly same price, limited lifetime for ACD and Standard. RockAuto $3.24 for ACD (2 year warranty), $4.81 for SMP (3 year warranty). I think I'll just pick up the the ACD one from Oreilly. The description on it says "GM Genuine Parts".

Is AC Delco still the "standard"?

Isn't AC Delco GM OEM? I thought they were actually the same. Even at rockauto, the standard relay is more expensive. AC Delco 15-81106 vs SMP RY-604. I see the "OEM" part listed at 21997408 and that's what's printed on the AC-Delco version. Would they be different somehow?

Is AC Delco still the "standard"?

My buddy who runs his own garage says he like to use Standard (SMP) for replacement parts (vs any "store" brand for sue and others as well). I don't think he would pick them over OEM, but I'm looking at a relay and the AC Delco part (which I think a new one actually went bad on me already) is...

    Fuel Pump Relay issue...maybe?

So a while back I had an issue I posted in here where my truck would hard start every so often. It will be a long crank and then it will turn over and run for a second and then stop. But the next crank will be perfect. And it never runs rough. Never figured it out and neither did a couple of...

    Dashboard light issue

Well - a lot of other stuff happened and I didn't get around to trying that. And I'm glad I didn't. The "other stuff" involved my dad, who has a 97 Suburban, so essentially the identical electrical and has no issues. I took my meter and tested the voltage to ground at fuse 14 and got 0.11 volts...

I will try that later or tomorrow.

    Dashboard light issue

Thanks for all that! I tried doing a jumper wire directly from the headlight switch/dark green wire to the fuse terminal and got nothing. I even tried doing a jumper from the switch to the gray wire on the transfer case switch and still got nothing. I'm no stranger to electronics at all, but I...

    Dashboard light issue

I couldn't even get continuity from the dark green wire off the headlight switch to the fuse. Also noticed no fog lights come on. I think it's time for me to throw in the towel and take it to somebody...

    Dashboard light issue

An additional thought (hopefully you guys are still reading these cause I'm WAY over my head! :) )...When I checked the voltage at the fuse, I got no voltage at the fuse. On the E3 side, that is just the dark green wire from the dimmer to the fuse and the D4 side is the gray wire that goes to...

    Dashboard light issue

A ton of info in there! I took out the cluster and tried my old one on a lark, of course no change. I have a dumb question though... Based on the diagram above, it looks like the common element is the "GRY (8) wire between Splice S217 and...", so my thought is that gray wire is broken loose...

    Dashboard light issue

I replaced that switch first and no difference. Also my daughter clarified it was pretty much anywhere on the dashboard but mostly she'd just do it right in the middle over the steering wheel. I'll pull the instrument cluster anyway. Just seems weird that the dashboard smack would affect a...

    Dashboard light issue

Left hand side, above the actual switch. No idea if doing it anywhere else would have worked. When you say "switch assembly", what do you mean though? I replaced the switch itself and that didn't help at all.

    Dashboard light issue

Recently I've had an issue with the dashboard lights on my 97 Tahoe. The light switch works fine for the headlights but it won't control any of the interior lights (cluster, radio, dome, etc) UNLESS...you give a tap on the top of the dashboard. It would work for a while like that and...

P1351 after replacing ignition coil and icm

Ok. I'm an idiot. Lol. I said brake control module and it's the ignition control module. And I think that threw off exp500 or it was an autocorrect. I'm relatively certain the issue is the line between my ignition control module and the the ecm. I'm just nervous about disconnecting or even...

P1351 after replacing ignition coil and icm

I still haven't resolved it. My next thing is replacing the connector to the brake control module. Just gotta find the time and weather to do it.
