2001 Tahoe Reverse Flow cooling system

How old is your water pump? I think that, unless the cooling system was horribly neglected, I kind of doubt the radiator is plugged internally.

    Master Cylinder

The hydraulic route does have a continuous path from the master cylinder to each caliper, bypassing the ABS unit. This would allow small air bubbles to travel freely up to the master cyilinder. Remember that when we bleed brakes, air in the ABS pump does not get removed until you actually run...

    Master Cylinder

I've been curious about what follows here for some time. Normally when we do a brake job, we bleed the brakes to remove air at the wheels. Now, most of the air gets expelled during the bleeding, and in theory, all the air should be expelled from the system. Now, if a tiny amount of air may...

2001 Tahoe Reverse Flow cooling system

The 5.3 has the same basic cooling design having the thermostat at the bottom. I have drained and refilled my system at least 3 times so far. I had no trouble at all. Were you squeezing the upper rad hose with the engine running? Was the upper rad hose hot? I agree with Scott, you had an...

    2017 Yukon transmission shudder

Normally, if they change the filter, the fluid in the transmission won't get flushed and you will be left with half old fluid mixing with new fluid. If they change all the fluid with a flush, dropping the pan after will mean you will have to pay for even more fluid and more time. Most...

    Burken Boys’ and Girl’s Journey

I taught my son how to use a slide rule. Anyone remember those?

    Burken Boys’ and Girl’s Journey

Oh you cruel man..... :) I hope you neglected to use PB Blaster or the like, and made him do the rustiest ones first.

    Burken Boys’ and Girl’s Journey

Your boys did a great job on the roof. Not much point in trying to do better unless you can start mixing your own colours and stuff. Besides, with practice their skills will improve and may be inclined to get more professional equipment for painting. At the very least, they will be able to do...

    Burken Boys’ and Girl’s Journey

I love those Mercs. I had a 1992 for 22 years. I only sold it because I need the spot for my 2720 Trailmanor Wade, that Mercury was the best vehicle I have ever owned. (hush... don't tell anyone... even better the the Tahoe...) The most major things I had to do were valve stem seals after 5...

    Dexcool or not

Dexcool was an issue with nylon gaskets. This issue had to do with the buffer used (sodium 2-ethanol hexanoate). In our engines there are, AFAIK, no nylon gaskets in contact with coolant. On the older 5.7 there are, but gasket failures in the 5.7 seem rare. That said, if you want to change...

Catch Can - Valve Pictures at 54k mi

Did GM every change the timing to delay closing the valves upon compression, allowing a small amount of the unburned fuel mixture to "backwash" the valves? Not that that would make much of a difference, but I believe Ford did so to help keep their intake valves cleaner.

    Rear Main Oil Seal

I did manage to use the transmission jack. One hint is to use a piece of plywood bolted to the stage of the jack. This gives a little friction so it doesn't slide right off. It also helps to support the transmission on blocks and remove the transmission crossmember and mount. Doing this I...

    Rear Main Oil Seal

This works as long as you are not parking on a city street or in a strata. Fortunatelly, this job was just a lot of work and not too expensive. It definitely helps to have an extra helper, but I managed to do the entire job myself. Now that I've done it once, would I do it again? As I am...

Rear lift gate glass hinge seperation?!

2nd esky hatch... does that mean they break too? It seems like the center brake lamp is integrated with the hatch on the esky, whereas the Tahoe center lamp is in the roof frame. If so, does one just remove the center lamp for the Tahoe and plug the esky center lamp into the existing harness...

Rear lift gate glass hinge seperation?!

I saw at a junkyard an 02 Escalade with the 05/06 glass. Must be true. The pictures look deceiving, but the 02-04 has a rubber flap glued to the top of the glass, the 05/06 has that plastic molding mounted to the glass. I'll see soon enough I suppose, when I find one.

Catch Can - Valve Pictures at 54k mi

I wonder if the 2018 DI V6 "catch can" really keeps valves cleaner. It might, but I think it would be for a different reason. The valley is going to be hot and not let much oil vapour condense like the external catch can will. It's almost like GM wants the oil vapour to remain hot so that it...

Catch Can - Valve Pictures at 54k mi

I'd be curious to see what the valves looked like on a similar vintage and mileage without a catch can. This is one reason Ford introduced two sets of injectors on their Ecoboost, one set for direct injection, the other before the valves. One of the main reasons for this is that there is no...

Rear lift gate glass hinge seperation?!

I may have found one. Depends on if they still have the truck. It looks like it's been in their system a year. I bet they don't keep their system updated so I'll have to phone.

Rear lift gate glass hinge seperation?!

All the pictures from scrap yards of the 2006 seem to show the same glass used from 2002. I haven't found any 2006 to see yet. So, I'm hearing that 2006 Tahoe/Yukon will fit. What about Suburban and Yukon XL? Can anyone confirm compatibility? (I would expect so, but I've also learned to...

Rear lift gate glass hinge seperation?!

The "trim" is actually a structural urethane adhesive. Unfortunately, after a number of years of service, it can break away. So, how is the hinge actually attached? Is that glass that it is attached to? Is the glass attached to a metal frame? What is that hole to the left of the hinge I...

Rear lift gate glass hinge seperation?!

That's right. It's the top hinge that is giving away.

Rear lift gate glass hinge seperation?!

I'm a little confused at the moment. The picture shows where the lift support attaches, not where the hinge attaches. I'm interested in comparing how the 2002 and 2005 hinge itself is attached to the glass
