    Rear wheel bearing, replace axle?

I'm pretty much okay with doing the rear wheel bearings. My question is more related to the chances the rear axle also needs replacing. Last time I had the rear wheels off I could feel roughness in the rear right wheel as I rotated it, so I'm pretty sure I need to do that bearing. But, if I...

    Rear wheel bearing, replace axle?

How many of you had to replace the axle with the wheel bearing? I don't want the truck to be down for longer than necessary. However, if all I need to replace is the wheel bearing, the cost will be reasonably cheap. The most expensive part will the the diff fluid. But, if I get it apart and...

    Towing stability

While air ride is nice, it doesn't actually transfer tongue weight to the front axle, it merely levels the truck. A weight distributing hitch actually lifts the weight off the rear axle and transfers it to the front axle. This is better for handling. Imagine placing yourself between the...

    Towing stability

Hmm, I would have thought the opposite here. Too much tongue weight will remove weight from the steering wheels, reducing steering control. Of course, not enough tongue weight will allow the trailer to "wag the dog". The longer Suburban will experience less sway as well, but the new Tahoes...

    Oil leak. Not rear main

I think it's just baked on oil residue. If you look at my images of the oil filter (conveniently from that post #112) you will see the same casting, but cleaner.

    Oil leak. Not rear main

I could not see any evidence of my leak inside the bell housing. This is because it drained down the back of the engine. See post 112 here: https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/rear-main-oil-seal.117639/page-12 I'm not saying that yours is a rear main leak, but don't discount it either...

    Oil leak. Not rear main

How are you so certain that it is not the rear main seal? There is also a rear cover gasket that leaks, and it is just as hard to get to as the rear main. When I replaced mine, there was no way I could verify the rear main for certain. In fact, the rear cover gasket was leaking more than the...

    Burken Boys’ and Girl’s Journey

At least they were in a parking lot and not the middle of the road when it went. And fortunately that T is at the top of the engine. No need to drain to replace. But, they aren't fun to remove. When mine went it split wide open and pumped coolant all over the place. I didn't have anything...

    Brake bleeding frustration

If you're just swapping calipers, there probably isn't much air that travels up through the base hydraulic system, so doing an ABS bleed first is probably not going to cause any problems, and saves doing a second base hydraulic bleed. However, if you have opened the hydraulic system up anywhere...

    Junkyard windshield

BC is looking into cab warning lights for when a dump truck box is in the up position: https://globalnews.ca/news/9483827/video-dump-truck-richmond-overpass/

    Junkyard windshield

Find and follow an overheight truck in BC. As soon as they go underneath an overpass they'll hit the overpass, showring you with plenty of debris that will be sure to win you a new windshield. We've had over a dozen overpass strikes in the past year here.

    Brake bleeding frustration

Another possibility not yet mentioned, did you have a rusted brake line open up?

    Brake bleeding frustration

I've been doing brakes for decades on my own vehicles, and I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago. Embarrassingly, I have to admit I put the left front caliper on the right wheel, and the right caliper on the left side. This means my bleed screws were on the bottoms of the...

    2005 5.3 Ticking Journey

Use a stethoscope to find out where the ticking is coming from. Mine is loudest at the exhaust manifold, and barely noticeable from the valve covers. I've had this ticking for years and not actual engine troubles, so I figure it's a warped exhaust manifold (very common I hear). It's probably...

    Finally doing rear seal job

This was mine. The RMS itself probably wasn't leaking much if at all. It was the rear cover that was leaking so much. Once i had the cover off the gasket was so compressed there was no way it could seal properly anymore. New RMS and gasket has been on since June 2020 and no leaks. (Still...

    2023 Yukon Denali mats/cargo liners

As far as I know, cargo liners only ever went to the back of the 2nd row. I don't think there is a cargo liner that covers both 2nd and third row seats, even for my 2002 Tahoe. I wonder if there is a liner that is flexible enough to roll up behind the third row, then roll out as far as needed...

    2023 Yukon Denali mats/cargo liners

All this talk makes me love my old-style removable third row seats even more. These newer Tahoes/Yukons need to be dubbed SLV for Sport Luxury Vehicles rather than the true Sport Utility Vehicle. Sure, they're heavy to take out and put in, but I get a true flat floor up to the 2nd row, and a...

    Parking brake (yes, another one!)

It shouldn't be a problem in the PNW. Mine shouldn't be a problem either which is why I'm replacing the cable. I suspect there is corrosion on the cable inside the sheathing.

    Parking brake (yes, another one!)

I had that fight a few years ago. The passenger rear cable should be fairly easy. I can get it off the lever from the backing plate easily. It will mainly be feeding the cable through to the wheel. I had trouble with the parking brake freezing a few years ago as well. I don't know why I didn't...

    Parking brake (yes, another one!)

Well, the passenger side parking brake froze again. It seems to be a sluggish cable. I exercised the parking brake 20 times and it released finally. I think I replaced the intermediate and DS parking cables. I guess the PS is next.

    Parking brake shoe mounting bolt

Sorry, didn't see these responses.... The bolt for the parking brake shoe retaining clip. I'm going to have to do wheel bearings this summer, so I'll see if I can replace the parking brake anchor plate (https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-89026786-Original-Equipment-Parking/dp/B004JBC7MA ).

    Parking brake (yes, another one!)

Yup. Did that already, but I don't think I set the hook as you described because I'm reading this after I got it put together. But I'll remember to reposition it when I put my all seasons back on.

    Parking brake (yes, another one!)

@Fless thans for that, and the picture. It seems that the lever that goes through the backing plate may have dislodged from the pill that connects to the adjuster and brake shoe. Perhaps when I last released the parking brake, the shoe didn't return as fast as the cable and that pill got...

    Parking brake (yes, another one!)

Well, the parking brake has worked well until we got a freeze, lows to -13°C for a few nights. I used the parking brake out of habit, and now the mechanism appears to be jammed on the right rear. In the picture you can see that the level has not returned to its completely released position...

    Parking brake (yes, another one!)

The parking brake appears fine for now. I could probably force the pedal down more, but it holds just fine for now. I think the first time I adjusted the parking brake, the shoes needed to be mated to the drums properly. As soon as I went back to it a couple of days later I was able to get...
