    Parking brake (yes, another one!)

Thanks, I remember reading about this fix years ago. In my case this isn't the problem. I have lots of adjustment left on the adjusters at the brake shoes. My problem is that once I have them adjusted so that they are just touching the inner hat, the parking brake pedal doesn't feel as firm...

    Parking brake (yes, another one!)

@B-train, I'm not a muscular guy by any means! On my wife's Explorer there is a solid resistance about half way down when applying the parking brake. I might be able to push it down more if I really tried. It holds solid. @Fless, I'm aware of that intermediate cable with the threaded rod...

    Parking brake (yes, another one!)

Every parking brake system I have ever had, the pedal actuator will go down until the the brake is fully applied, and the resistance is enough that you cannot press the parking brake to the floor even if you tried. My 2002 Tahoe has never been like that, so I always figured I didn't have the...

    Parking brake shoe mounting bolt

The hole for the parking brake mounting bolt is stripped out. Last time I used some Locktite to just hold the bolt in place, but this time I think I need to do something better. Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do to fix it?

Changing flat tire, lug nut removal?

All my previous cars have been 100 ft lbs, I know the spec for the Tahoe is 140 ft lbs. Perhaps I should be torquing them higher, but in light of the fact I might have to break them free with the supplied wrench, I torque them to just 100 ft lbs. I have never had an issue with them coming...

    Tech 2 scanner vs Autel

I don't know what your Autel will do, but I think it will depend on what you want it to do. I have an older Genysis scan tool that will cycle the ABS pump for bleeding. It won't do everything the Tech 2 will, but when I got it was a good price (used). I also wanted something that I could use...

Sounding more and more like it is the pulse board. Thanks guys!

    Wipers stop periodically

I came across this video. Kinda hard to see, but the information is priceless. I may have a bad solder joint somewhere.

    Wipers stop periodically

Thanks for your ideas. I see that the pulse module has two contacts that could have corroded in the elements. I may look here first, as they may simply need cleaning. I may wait for better weather though. I don't like working in the cold rain.

    Wipers stop periodically

My wipers will just stop working periodically. If I turn them off, then back on again, they usually start right up again. Electrical gremlins can be hard to diagnose when they are intermittent like this on is. I don't want to just throw parts at it. Any idea whether it is more likely the...

In what situations have you used 4L/4Low?

I have used 4H on snowy roads in the PNW. We had a cabin with a very steep gravel graded road. Ground clearance wasn't an issue, but 4L was helpful. A buddy of mine told me once that he used 4L to haul a larger truck off a ferry boat whose air brakes failed (stayed locked). I'm not sure if I...

Tick-tick on start up after going Synthetic

Get yourself a stethoscope and listen to the valve covers above each cylinder area, exhaust manifolds at each exhaust port, and other areas until you hear the ticking most pronounced. (This may take some time because you will only have a few seconds at a time during cold startups.) This will...

Oil on spark plugs - misfiring p0300

Check post #12 here: https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/rough-idle-only-in-cold-weather-please-help.87692/page-2 I didn't have a lean code in the beginning. It was the lean code that led me to change the IM gasket.

Oil on spark plugs - misfiring p0300

I can't recall, did you replace the intake manifold gasket? If you have air leaks into specific cylinders, unmetered air can enter those cylinders and cause a misfire. When I had my misfires, I found it was very hard to diagnose conclusively, other than random misfires on one bank only. I...

Oil on spark plugs - misfiring p0300

There is still a hose that connects the valve cover to the intake. I'd pop that hose off and check for suction.

Oil on spark plugs - misfiring p0300

OK, good that is cleared up then. There is no such thing as a plug tube seal on these. The oil is on the threads for one of the reasons others have suggested here. I'd try the simplest first: pop the PVC off from the valve cover to make sure there is suction while the vehicle is running...

Oil on spark plugs - misfiring p0300

What vehicle is this? As far as I know, spark plugs don't go through the the valve cover on any Tahoe/Yukon etc, like they do on the hemi or a Nissan VQ etc.

Stupid Question: How to effectively clean interior windows?

I don't bother with water after. The toluene evaporates fairly quickly. Sometimes I use acetone after though. That evaporates even quicker than toluene.

Stupid Question: How to effectively clean interior windows?

The film on the windshield is more like a wax than an oil. Denatured alcohol is a polar solvent and not as good at removing these films. The removal of this film needs a non-polar solvent...

Stupid Question: How to effectively clean interior windows?

I have tried pretty much all of the methods above. The best ones have lasted maybe a few weeks, but up here near the pacific NW, any amount of humidity in the cool weather makes this "film" show up really bad. I have concluded that most of the methods above don't actually remove the film...

    96 Tahoe Random Misfire P0300

The extra cranks after turning off and restarting is also a sign of a failing FPR. Fuel vapour escapes through the FPR into the vacuum line and enriches the intake air, causing a hard warm start. If left overnight, much of that vapour dissipates so the air is no longer enriched. A cold engine...

Range of cost for rear main seal job at a shop?

It would almost be criminal to not replace the rear cover gasket at the same time. No mechanic with any conscience at all would omit changing the rear cover gasket, I'm sure.

Range of cost for rear main seal job at a shop?

Bolts seemed snug, definitely not loose. I think what happens is that the gasket gets compressed and shrinks. When I removed the old gasket, the gasket material was pretty much flush with the metal carrier. I wonder if RTV from the factory would have lasted better.

Range of cost for rear main seal job at a shop?

In my case, and many others I presume, it is not the actual RMS that leaks. It is the rear cover. It can be nearly impossible to see an actual leak from this rear cover.
