Do you have an OBD scanner? If so, plug it in and see if any codes are being thrown.
Likely throwing a code that it isn’t reading the temp, so the ecm cranks the fans on thinking it might be overheating.
Ah this is good to know. Sounds like I'll be climbing back underneath and putting it back in flipped next weekend.
I hadn't read that on here or elsewhere before..but it makes sense now that you've said it.
Sorry for the misinformation LT1ZOB!
From everything I've read online (including on this forum), no.
My understanding is GM has added this plunger/spring system for emissions or something.
All the 6L80's prior to 2015 didn't have this plunger and those transmissions are doing fine.
Seems like it accomplishes the same thing as just removing the thermostat plunger and spring all together.
Then you'll just get full time flow rather than it opening for flow at 185 degrees.
I say this as someone who did the plunger and spring removal today in about 15 minutes.
EDIT: video of...
Today I finally did the thermostat flip for the 6L80 today.
Hoping to see a noticeable drop in trans fluid temp after this.
Going to do a long 3000 mile drive soon pulling my Camaro on a trailer, so this should be helpful.
Only pic I snapped - you can see the thermostat plunger and spring at...
Very nice, thanks for sharing.
I've contemplated getting a full size spare mounted up but wasn't sure if the diameter would be too big to fit it under there.
I run a 275/70/18 so I'll need to do some measuring..but now I have the motivation.
I'll need to see if a 265/75/17 BFG K02 will fit on...
I’m interested as well. I don’t know if you can buy just the muffler piece alone. But I’d do so if I can.
I want just a muffler replaced, not all the other pieces.
Installed (literally 2 bolts) a console safe. This is from Lock'er Down.

Very impressed with the fit and finish of this console. Fits extremely snug and you'd think it's...
The GM part number for the skid plates is 23176881. I got some take-offs off of eBay. Didn’t need them to be brand new for their purpose so it worked out perfectly.
Great to know, and appreciate the advice about finding the “happy place” for my Camaro on the trailer. That’ll be very important for 3000 miles haha
And that’s pretty cool about Mike and Shane.
How'd it tow with your C7 back there? I'm going to have to tow my Camaro on a long haul soon should be like 5500-6000lbs including trailer that I'll be pulling.
Also, did you see the youtuber StreetSpeed717 there with his black C7 ZR1?
The front diff you just undo a bolt to drain and a bolt to fill. No disassembly.
The rear diff gasket is re-useable since its the rubber and metal kind. Make sure you clean off the magnet in the rear diff - it's a circle magnet located right on the bottom of the pumpkin. Flush it all out with...
$4500 to $5500 for GM to do it? Damn!
Hit up RPM transmissions and see what they charge. The TR6060 from my Camaro can be fully built for 1200+hp and cost less than that.
I've wanted the heated steering wheel since I bought the car without the luxury package. The heated steering wheel is very nice in the winter on snow trips etc.
I order the following parts:
Heated Steering Wheel PN: 84483796
Clock spring for 2018+ w/ heated steering wheel PN: 84186645
Ordered...
Everything arrived last night from GMPartsStore
Installed this morning. Took about 45mins when following along with the video of the "Tinkering Fox" guy doing it on his Sierra.
Pulling the knee guard back enough to get to all the wires (specifically removing the old clock spring) was the hardest...
