    Afm

My stance is that disabling AFM via tune only or a full mechanical AFM delete will impact the transmission, but in a good way. The engine jumping between V4 and V8 is troublesome for the TCC and transmission in general. Generates more heat and unnecessary friction on the wear parts inside the...

Need Advice - 2018 Yukon Denali - needs new engine

For what it's worth, the engine on my 2015 Suburban 5.3 took a crap on me last June. The transmission was on its way out during that time as well. After lots of research, I determined that instead of replacing with what I had, I would purchase a fully dressed engine and transmission together and...

First problem after one year on 2018 Yukon XL Denali

It may seem like a far fetched idea, but do some research on the GM 6.6 liter "L8T" engine. It debuted in the 2020 heavy duty GM trucks. It's basically a stroked 6.2 but is built without the cylinder deactivation junk. I bought a 3 mile fully dressed L8T AND a 6L90 transmission for $7400. This...

Any update here? I am anxious to hear what the findings and resolution was.

Now at FIVE AC system failures in four weeks...

Due to your responses here, I would HIGHLY recommend a GM thermostat and GM coolant temperature sensor. Around $100 in parts, but I think these symptoms warrant this repair. Trying to justify to a dealer or warranty company why this repair should happen may be challenging, but due to the...

Now at FIVE AC system failures in four weeks...

This is likely a HUGE shot in the dark, but figured it may be worth mentioning. Does your engine temperature gauge get to, and stay right at 210 during normal operations? I am asking because the thermostat on these engines are very weak and known to fail. They get stuck partially open...

2020 Tahoe Premier Smash or Pass?

Looking at the Carfax, 2 things concern me. 1. There are oil change intervals of 12k and 16k. 2. Transmission has no record of being serviced. Having a 2015 Suburban that I just spent upwards of $13k to replace the engine and transmission on, that's why I am a stickler for those 2 things...

2016 temp gauge not working and fans running high speed

In your case, and most others, the original sensor likely never needed replaced. The way the thermostats fail in these always makes people want to target the temperature sensor. Trust me, I was one of them. Mine happened about a year ago, and I only figured out the thermostat was the issue just...

    L8t 427 Whipple charged Denali

Is the 2014 the last year of the Vortec? If so, the swap to 6.6 may prove to be a little more difficult, as the Vortec engines are port injected whereas the 2015+ 5.3, 6.2, and the L8T are all direct injected. Definitely not saying the swap is impossible, but something worth checking on.

    L8t 427 Whipple charged Denali

Unfortunately I do not. My technician worked out the small odds and ends during the install and honestly that part was such a small detail to me in the grand scheme of things, I didn't ask. I remember the guy who inspired this swap telling me about the fuel rail sensor and my technician...

    L8t 427 Whipple charged Denali

I used my L83 wiring harness and L83 ECM. The only wiring that was changed was a fuel rail sensor 2 wire to 3 wire.

2016 temp gauge not working and fans running high speed

Don't let mechanics or others over complicate this repair at the expense of your finances. Change the coolant thermostat with a GM thermostat, and disconnect battery to be sure any pending codes clear out.

    Transmission Tuning

Hello all! I wanted to hopefully spark some conversation here with prolonging transmission/torque converter life span and whether tuning should be equally recommended alongside the thermal bypass upgrade. I know that high temps seem to expedite the process of these transmissions failing...so...

    Oil Pressure

Hey guys I've got something I've been curious about and was seeking some input. As some of you may know, I swapped in a 6.6 Liter L8T engine into my 2015 Suburban last Fall. I've noticed that there are times when the oil pressure reading on my dash is maxed out during acceleration. Its more...

    Buyers Remorse?

Buyers remorse perfectly describes my experience with my 2015 Suburban. I purchased it in May 2023 with 182k miles on it for $17.5k from a pretty big Chevy dealer in Louisville, KY. Within 6 weeks the engine dropped a lifter, ruining the camshaft. During that 6 weeks, I also noticed the...

2016 temp gauge not working and fans running high speed

Have you checked any online outlets? If you can get a GM part number, sourcing these shouldn't be too hard as long as you aren't afraid to order from Amazon or any other online GM parts outlets.

2016 temp gauge not working and fans running high speed

I wouldn't say there's any harm in it as long as it doesn't trip the fail safe mode. Generally speaking, if yours doesn't reach dead center, it will likely trip that fail safe mode at some point. Good thing is though, as long as you have a pocket scanner, you can literally reset the code while...

2016 temp gauge not working and fans running high speed

Is your temperature gauge now pointing straight up at 210? That's usually the sign of a faulty thermostat in these is that full operating temp never reaches close to 210, and of course then the whole fail safe deal happens where gauge falls to zero and all that stuff.

2016 temp gauge not working and fans running high speed

The CEL will not light up, it is stored as a pending code. The code is something to the effect of "coolant temp below threshold". This code needs cleared before the systems will resume regular operation. You may be able to remove the battery terminal for 10 minutes or so to reset the pending...

2016 Yukon Denali weird stuff, sketchy gm dealer

Keep us posted! I'm worried they'll come back and say you've got a failed lifter. Hopeful for a cheap fix though!

2016 Yukon Denali weird stuff, sketchy gm dealer

I hope this isn't the case, but your symptoms sound nearly identical to when my 2015 Suburban had a collapsed lifter on Cylinder 4. I truly hope that's not the case here however, as you're looking at at least a couple thousand to fix it, depending on the route you go with it.

2016 temp gauge not working and fans running high speed

If you notice, your AC compressor also will not engage when your engine is in this "fail safe" mode. Unfortunately this thermostat failure happens to some during the warm months and because the AC compressor stops, they end up throwing unnecessary money at the AC system thinking that's the issue.

2016 temp gauge not working and fans running high speed

This will 100% happen again. I was in your shoes middle of last year. Had these issues and threw on a temperature sensor and thinking how great it was that it was such a cheap and quick fix. Issue came back about a week later. Replaced sensor 2x more, before I wised up and threw a GM thermostat...
