Is This Camshaft Reusable? Or Too Pitted?

Luckily, I did already have a friend warn me about this. I bought the torque to yield bolts. Maybe I should've gotten the ARP ones and saved myself some headache. My neighbor let me borrow his degree tool, so that probably shifted my purchase. One less thing to buy. At this point, I'm still...

Is This Camshaft Reusable? Or Too Pitted?

I did. Doing the entire delete. Not particularly having a good time, but the truck is in great shape otherwise, and my wife loves it, so I went for it. Even though this is a newer generation, I was referencing this video (timestamped) where he releases the tension before removing the cam...

Is This Camshaft Reusable? Or Too Pitted?

First off, this whole job sucks. Second, do I have to relieve the tension on the timing chain in order to remove the timing chain? I've seen multiple videos, all doing something different. And also, so far, I've had a whale of a time pushing that tensioner far enough to get an little allen...

Is This Camshaft Reusable? Or Too Pitted?

Will it be less power than the stock DOD that I’ve been running? Or will the non-DOD 5.3 have more power than my current setup, but a proper 6.2 can would be the best?

Is This Camshaft Reusable? Or Too Pitted?

Okay so the local-ish shop that sells DOD Delete kits said there's a nationwide shortage in the 6.2 stock non-DOD cams (he's right, I can't find them anywhere online), and he said it's fine to put a 5.3 cam in. Do you guys agree with that?

Is This Camshaft Reusable? Or Too Pitted?

Well yeah. If I'm taking the cam out, then I'm doing the whole delete. I just don't want to take the cam out. :Big Laugh: :sad72:

Is This Camshaft Reusable? Or Too Pitted?

Yep. Here's the pic. And video of me rolling it.

Is This Camshaft Reusable? Or Too Pitted?

    Ugh. I mean, that's a logical answer. But I don't like it.

Is This Camshaft Reusable? Or Too Pitted?

Well, I'd say taking out the radiator and water pump and timing cover is a considerable amount more work. :Big Laugh: It's an L94 6.2 Vortec 6200

The roller was a bit pitted, too. And didn't roll great. But yes, that's oil on there. That can be wiped off.

Is This Camshaft Reusable? Or Too Pitted?

This is in relation to my engine knock thread. Before I pull the other head, I'd love y'all's opinion on this cam. This is a pretty expensive decision for me to go any further (especially if not needed). Is this cam too pitted to reuse? Note: The other thread relating to cams in this forum...

Posted wrong and can't figure out how to delete it. :Big Laugh:

    2013 Yukon Engine Knock...

Yeah the rockers are still in on the driver side. I only took off the passenger side. I was trying to turn it so that I could inspect the cam through the hole. But it seems to be... stuck? I don't want to muscle it too hard if it's supposed to be stuck there. I'm partly trying to save money...

    2013 Yukon Engine Knock...

Okay, between lots of work and some travel, I got a little delayed, but finally got the head off today. Definitely a stuck lifter. Figured that out when I took the valve cover off. Questions: 1. How difficult should it be to turn the cam over with a 24mm socket and ratchet? It seemed easy when I...

    2013 Yukon Engine Knock...

Yeah it's been sitting in my driveway untouched for several days now. Won't be able to start cracking it open until this weekend. Pretty terrified of finding the same thing you did.

    2013 Yukon Engine Knock...

Update so far: The Tennessee Tune-Up was not exactly successful. Drained the old oil. Put in 5 new quarts, plus a quart of MMO. My truck wouldn't allow me to to get the RPM above 3500 in Neutral, but I let it idle normally for about 10 minutes, then revved it to 3000 RPM for about 5 minutes...

    2013 Yukon Engine Knock...

Well then it looks like that's gonna be the first thing I try then. Also I feel like I should be more familiar with the Tennessee Tune-Up. I live in Memphis!

Don't you have to change out a lot more stuff to do that? Like the camshaft and such?

    2013 Yukon Engine Knock...

Well, as gross as that is, it beats the YouTube video I just watched where the dealer quoted $7500, and the guy spent over $1800 for parts and fixing it himself.

    2013 Yukon Engine Knock...

This kinda sounds like a "hold my beer" idea where you end up on a fails video and a trip to the ER .... that said, would there be a detriment to trying this? Like what's the risk of screwing up even more stuff?

    2013 Yukon Engine Knock...

Let's just say this is outside my skill level, what would you guys estimate this would cost at a shop? We looking at $2k? $5k? I really have no barometer on the cost of this repair.

I've done a water pump and spark plugs. Never done valve cover gaskets.

    2013 Yukon Engine Knock...

Well this is... challenging news, to say the least. Dropped it at the in-laws so that I could borrow one of their cars. Looks like I've got a full slate of YouTube videos to watch to determine if this is in my scope of skill level. Gross. Thanks for all the tips. I'm sure I'll be back soon...

    2013 Yukon Engine Knock...

Hi friends. 2013 GMC Yukon XL Denali 6.2L V8. I recently had a check engine light for a misfire on cylinder 6, and could very much feel the misfire. Changed the coil, no fix. Changed the spark plug, all is well! 3 days later, I have this engine knock happening. No check engine light, however...

    Aftermarket Stereo - "Modified Fit"

I'm about to do mine tonight. Thanks for the pic! I was just about to post this pic to ask what I needed to cut. Haven't tried to shove it in there yet, so maybe, according to others, I may not need to cut anything. Hope that's the case. Thanks for everyone's input.
