I am always amazed at how many folks buy a vehicle with premium ride suspension and then complain about the cost of maintaining it.
@bosco14 , If 8 yrs and 100k is unacceptable, what are you expecting from a set of shocks that are handling a 6000+ vehicle?
I had a similar issue in our 2007. Had the rear rebuilt, replaced the front dif and mounts (couldn’t find anyone to rebuild it), fixed motor mounts and still had it. Ended up being the transfer case. I didn’t bother rebuilding it and put a GM new in and that solved the issue. After all that...
Sounds to me like you found your problem.
I would avoid driving in Auto4WD unless you are planning on seeing changing road conditions like in the winter. Definitely don’t drive in 4HI when on dry pavement. 4LO should only be used in severe situations. In fact, I told my teenage son that if...
The VLOM doesn’t need to be changed. The reason it was mentioned is there have been a number of cases where the bolts holding the VLOM down have loosed up overtime, letting oil leak out. If you have the intake off already to check the torque on the VLOM bolts, might not be a bad idea to take...
The o-ring?
I would take the existing one and go to your local hardware store and find one that is the same size. Since the fill plug is above the fluid level, I'm not sure I would spend much time worrying about it.
Reminds me of the story my 4 older siblings told me about the time my dad finally agreed to take them kite flying back in the early 70's. My brother had been pestering my dad to take them and when finally agreed and took them out to my uncles pasture, he was so excited that he slammed the back...
Not much shared labor between those two repairs unless you plan on pulling the motor to do the heads, which isn’t necessary. Heads are up top and don’t get you near the rear main seal. You need to pull the transmission to get to the rear main seal.
I’d try and pull it out best you can and maybe clean up and seal the gash then some body filler and paint, before I tried to cut out that section and welded a new piece in. Just my 2¢.
