you buy them from HPT, $50 a credit. our trucks need two credits to unlock the tune so you can edit and flash it back to the pcm. and thats for unlimited editing. if you shop around they sell the hp tuners interface with any where from 2 to 10 credits. like hellcats take some crazy amount, 12 iirc.
need to scan it for codes. might need a scanner that can do abs, srs as well as p codes. cheap scanners just cover them P codes. but if the cel is lit you've got a code to start diaging things if its related.
theres likely a chip inside the plastic part, or its just been torn apart and got damaged wires from when it got stolen. the steering wheel does not lock in these trucks. one reason they are stolen so easy.
your going to need a tune to make that engine work right in the 71 truck, so add...
on a stock car or truck your not feeling anything ground breaking. the most your gonna feel is the trans tune part of the tune. its not like your unlocking 50-100 hp.
ive got a 600 whp camaro, driving my tahoe is truly like driving a slug, its apples and oranges. tahoe is stock and tuned too...
changing the fan settings is hardly tuning. a child could do it. that easy. its a nice tool to have your box tho. ive got one. used it on every car/truck ive owned over the last 10 years, as well as friends cars and work trucks.
you can just do the fronts, just swap em fast and make sure the master dont go empty. might be worth doing them all and flushing the old fluid out if its not been done.
id start with checking cleaning remounting all the grounds. add couple maybe before buying a new bcm.
and the bcm has zero to do with the engine. thats the pcm. and i dont think the engine will miss a beat running off the current tune the 03 has. just make sure all the sensors are the same...
that local shop does not want to install your headers....id add high flow cats or no cats and a tune after the install to keep from getting cat codes and down stream o2 codes.
kinda seems like a tune issue still. what happens if you pull the plug off the temp sensor. its in the head up front end driver side. both fans should come on full speed with it unplugged. if they do both relays and wiring are working.
if you can find a wire diagram or if the wires are the same color and in the same place, you can take the pig tail plugs apart and move the wires to the right plug.
man, ive not had to do a damn thing to my hoe for the longest time now, well nothing new any ways. still got window regulators and crap to replace. been in hand for months so far. way to damn hot to give a crap about.
usually when it wont turn one way with power the box, or the rack is bad. im sure you could rebuild it your self. ive seen vids, but really seems like a pita. reman box i got was like $350.
bet thats due to your loose of communication via the obd2 port. if he cant fix that from loosing power he would need to bench flash it out side of the truck with a bench harness.
when i need to put a eyelet on a cable i used solder, heat and fill the eyelet up with solder, flux the bare wire end and push it into the eyelet. how ive done all of em for years now, like my dual battery and snow plow cables. then a few busted off ends over the years on many cars and trucks...
any chance you put the calipers on the wrong side? bleeders need to be on the top of the caliper when mounted. if on the bottom you'll never get em bled.
