CEL came on yesterday, 2006 ODB trouble codes

Right now this is a general question. The CEL came on yesterday (180,000 miles) and I plugged in my reader and found a whole bunch of P codes under drivetrain. A bunch of O2 sensor codes (bank 1,2 and pre and post cat) and a number of transmission codes. There were others but I thought those...

    AFM Delete and California Smog

I would have to dig up the link again regarding the table CARB is purported to have. The table is a list of check sums found on vehicles like the one being tested. For example if in CA there are 5,000 2016 5.3 Tahoes there should be a fairly limited number of different check sums that CARB...

    Budgeting for a paint job

Okay, but why? They use quality paint... of course it will not be as good as a $8k or $10k or #20k paint job but I would expect that.

    AFM Delete and California Smog

I have read countless threads on multiple forums and on sites selling "tuning" software or services. I don't yet have a feeling that how the CA software currently works is described with any authority. You ask 30 people and you get at least 30 different opinions. It is interesting that HP...

How can you afford the cost of a new SUV?

Consumerism and keeping up the the Jones. In your original post you basically answer your own question. Can you cobble together cash/get a loan to buy the vehicle, yes. Can you afford it, no and hell no.

    Budgeting for a paint job

I was going to ask the general question regarding removing various bits to "help" the repainting. E.g. bumpers, running boards, lights, grill, emblems?, black upper rear covers, roof rack, antennas, lower outside window trims. What other items can/should be removed? What items should not be...

    AFM Delete and California Smog

okay, makes sense, I smog it .... the cert. is good for 6 months. Yes overthinking, yes worrying about selling before buyiing.

    AFM Delete and California Smog

One solution I came up with after deep googling. Sell the car only to people out of California.

    AFM Delete and California Smog

All things being equal I don't want to lie. FYI - in CA there is no selling "as-is" to get around the required passing SMOG cert.

    AFM Delete and California Smog

I agree I would be able to pass CA SMOG assuming no outside viewable changes. A new owner along with a dealer might be able to find out if there is some level of AFM delete. If that is not a worry then you are good to go in CA. I'm going to talk to a couple of shops here to see 1 - will they...

    AFM Delete and California Smog

Thanks and yes. Better to get the dual mode lifters out of there and probably don't put new lifters to ride on an old cam. I agree more value with DOD delete but in CA you have to pass smog or no sale.

    AFM Delete and California Smog

Makes sense. The Tahoe I'm looking at has 68k miles. I wonder if the ecm can detect the slightly if any difference in the cam. I think not because I haven't seen a mention of it on the internet. The issue I'm still thinking of is reselling in CA and I don't pass the visual or if somehow...

    AFM Delete and California Smog

Anyone please correct if I'm wrong. The BB solutions provide the CVN/etc. needed so that the recent (after July? 2021) CARB testing will not detect that the two files it checks are not what the factory provided. In other words it passes that part of the test. (for 2016 5.3 Tahoe) The more...

New Guy from San Diego/Park City/Looking to get a 16-18

I wonder if the new tune can get rid of the auto stop/start.

New Guy from San Diego/Park City/Looking to get a 16-18

BB Performance got back to me re. a 2016 5.3. You are right they offer a tune that disables the AFM and it can be returned back to stock. Not sure if the CA SMOG check can pick that up or not or if I would have to put the stock file back in the engine controller.

New Guy from San Diego/Park City/Looking to get a 16-18

I had a typo SISI should have been SIDI (direct injection). Thanks for the info. re. BB and AFM delete. Do the valves get crudded up and is walnut blasting the only solution?

New Guy from San Diego/Park City/Looking to get a 16-18

I'm from the 2006 area of the forum and looking at getting a 2016 Tahoe LTZ from a family member. Has the SISI, VVT, AFM and E85 aluminum engine with 6 speed. 60k miles. They have done all the service, not sure if the trans has been serviced. Is there a BlackBear AFM delete for this engine...

2006 gmc yukon xl SLT 5.3 L thermostat

Update on new thermostat. I still notice the temp. falling on long downhill sections. It sort of makes sense even if there is a working thermostat because there is no gas being burned and therefore no heat. At some point the temperature is going to go down. Maybe is didn't notice the drop...

2002 5.3 Crank appears to wobble at idle

At this point I'm starting to think the HB is a wear item. I'll say 100k miles. You replace the seal also. I had a strange vibration noise before the replacement and yesterday I didn't notice it. We'll see how it goes.

2002 5.3 Crank appears to wobble at idle

I didn't get a chance to do that. The old part is now gone. I assume the rubber got so old that it deformed in some manner causing the outside part to no longer be true to the inside/hub part. As mentioned the new one is running truer.

2002 5.3 Crank appears to wobble at idle

Today I got time to check how true the new HB looks. Looks pretty good, definitely better than the original 16 year old one. It was cracked around the rubber that shows. The AC tensioner runs with less bounce. I think the bounce there is a "bump" in the AC belt. Right now I'm using the...

2002 5.3 Crank appears to wobble at idle

I checked the new HB today and it runs truer than the old one that's for sure. The tension pulley for the AC bounces less. It looks like there is a bump of some sort in the belt.

2002 5.3 Crank appears to wobble at idle

I'm taking the Tahoe in this morning to have the HB replaced. I'll report back. Fingers crossed. I hope it runs truer and maybe a strange noise sometimes at idle will be gone. We'll see.

2002 5.3 Crank appears to wobble at idle

Yes, I think we are saying close to the same thing. I didn't know regarding the keying but it makes sense. Thanks for the added info.

2002 5.3 Crank appears to wobble at idle

Harmonic balancer is a bit of a strange name. There are some engines that need the main pulley for balancing but most don't. The 5.3 doesn't need external balancing. Harmonic is the key word. The crankshaft has natural rotational vibration frequencies that need to be damped out. The...
