On Saturday I went on a trip that took me over to Livermore and the grade where I've noticed the hesitation or missing. There seemed to be a very slight hesitation (in 4th gear at about 65mph) I shifted to 3rd and it ran smooth. So I'm thinking the engine is getting enough fuel. I should have...
Found this....
The Check Engine Light will come on if the percentage of increase or decrease in crankshaft revolutions per minute is between 2 percent and 10 percent. The Check Engine Light will blink if the percentage of the increase or decrease in crankshaft revolutions per minute is more than...
There seems to be an available OBD II code P0301 (last digit is the cylinder number).
This code is triggered and stored after a certain number of misfires on, in this example, cylinder #1. Right now I'm not seeing any codes like this.
Still not sure how the misfire is detected in the case of...
I Googled it.. There are 3 things mentioned:
- crankshaft speed (mentioned most frequently)
- coil signal (if no ignition then the signal is different)
- O2 sensor ( read about this re. F1 cars, each ignition is analyzed using the wideband sensor and injection is adjusted)
At this point I'll...
My scanner has live selection of each cylinder misfires. I bought a fuel pressure meter and I would have to extend the hose and tape the gauge to the windshield I guess. How does the ECU know when there is a misfire? It sees an O2 go way rich?
There seems to be quite a few posts on the web regarding the intake manifold gasket going out. Anyone replacing that before it goes bad? It seems when they do it they replace the knock sensors/seals and the harness going to the knock sensors.
Yes I can graph. I guess I could take a picture of the graph with both upstreams on the same graph or one above the other. With 172k miles maybe it is time for new upstream O2s. Then the question becomes go to the dealer or dig to find what make/model of O2 is good and plays nice with the...
Okay. I've been reading about looking at scanner outputs. E.g. short and long fuel trims, MAF, O2 sensors pre and post cat. So far I've checked all that in the driveway and everything seems to be in spec. Maybe the LTFT is reading constantly e.g. +7%. I need to do some more testing. There...
The next number of posts might be questions regarding what I see on my new scanner. E.g. what I see on the graphs of O2 sensors, short term fuel trims and Long Term Fuel Trims. Any misfires/etc.
Should I start a new tread or continue here? I figure there are actual techs on this forum. I...
I got my Foxwell Scanner today and hooked it up and ran the engine in the driveway.
The O2s seem to go up and down along with short term fuel trims. Nothing looked out of place while looking at the live data. The Foxwell seems to have a pretty good set of capabilities. The response to...
Thanks very much. Maybe at 171k miles they are ready to replace. I could send them to WitchHunter to get them checked and cleaned but then I'm down a car for a week or so.
I cleaned the MAF. Hard to tell if those small resister wires were dirty. The mesh looks cleaner now. I dumped in a bottle of the Lucas Fuel System Cleaner. I figured it can't hurt.
Considering replacing the injectors - found out they are somewhat spendy ($80-90) so holding off on that for...
today I poured in Lucas fuel system cleaner and spray cleaned the MAF. Probably a fuel pump replacement is in my future sooner or later so I'm getting my mind around that. I plan to get a quote next week. I don't really want to DIY the fuel pump - too much splashing gas around and having the...
That's with not started. When started goes right to 59-60psi. I guess what you are saying is if I do the key on test it should go to e.g. 60 and hold. Right?
@Fless, I retested. I could see the top pressure when I turned the key but when I viewed the gauge it held very steady at 40psi and dropped very slowly almost not dropping at all. Was minutes and maybe down 2 psi.
This is so exciting....
I got the "loaner" fuel pressure test kit from Autozone.
Key on - goes right to 59-60 pounds.
Then bleed off and it doesn't go back up.
Then key on and start and it snaps to 59-60psi... if I bleed it goes down a bit and then snaps back to 59-60psi.
I think the pump is...
The cross reference is a ACDelco 41-993 Professional Iridium Spark Plug
Added info. I think this plug has a 0.060" gap - I don't think that is right for my engine.
