    Recommendations for 4L60 Rebuild

I am building my 4L65E right now and am adding/upgrading the following: Alto Wide Band, Corvette Servo( already had) and Sonnax Superhold 4th servo (already had), superior shift kit 4L60E-L, Beast Sunshell, and Raybestos ZPack. I will be blocking off the PWM valve and 4th gear accumulator like...

    2002 Denali Camping Build

When installing my durations cam bearings, they had a chamfer that I did not account for. I did not have my install tool tight enough and scored the bearing beyond repair. Lesson learned, make sure your install tool is very tight prior to installing the cam bearings.

So the build is progressing slowly. Unfortunately life seems to get in the way. I have installed the rotating assembly so far with no major issues except one bone head mistake on the cam bearings. Here are some pictures.

    2002 Denali Camping Build

I appreciate the heads up Tony, I have not been waiting long on my bearings. There was a mix-up on my Christmas Eve delivery and I was not sent the correct rod and main Clevite bearing set. I have them in the mail back and the replacements will be shipped on Friday. I was just hoping to get...

    2002 Denali Camping Build

Rebuild is slow, my main and rod bearings are back ordered right now. I hope to get them next week to begin the re-build. I will document as best as possible. I am also struggling working in a non-heated garage (first world problems). Heating the block to get my measurements for clearances is...

    2002 Denali Camping Build

Since my rockers have 200k on them, I hve been researching a trunion upgrade. I will be installing dual springs and with the added spring pressure and the miles on my original rockers, I want to either upgrade the trunnion or upgrade the entire rocker. As I was researching looking to...

    2002 Denali Camping Build

I got my headers that i ordered on Black Friday, and i can attest that American Race Headers make a nice set of headers. I ordered the long set that connects to my stock dual system. I have to pass emissions in my county so i had to have CATs as well. Since I am staying NA, 1/3/4 was...

    2002 Denali Camping Build

I am now going to blueprint the engine. First area will be the cylinder walls. Visually there is no scratches but I want to verify that there is no taper and that i do not need to oversized my hypereutectic pistons. Piston to bore max clearance is 0.0031”. My bore gage is set to be delivered...

I have tore down the engine and no major issues have been found, just a lot of varnish.

I finally got the engine out. I took the intake manifold off prior to make it easier to reach the upper engine mount bolts.

Will 5.3 to 6.0 (LQ4) make a big difference in towing?

I may have been mislead, I heard that your oil change intervals should be less than every 3000 miles and that rebuild intervals on turbos was about 30k to 50k.

Will 5.3 to 6.0 (LQ4) make a big difference in towing?

I also tow a 5500# TT (with 4 boys and two dogs) with a 6.0, 4l65 at high altitude. This summer, I was towing a long 10% grade in Wyoming (final elevation was about 11,000') and it was the first time I felt that the 6.0 was struggling. I have a BB tune, TBSS intake & 87mm TB with MIT intake...

    2002 Denali Camping Build

@GMT800LUVR I don’t think I still have the torsion keys as I recycled them when I removed my torsion bars and converted to a coil over front suspension. I did lower my ride hight back to stockish when I downsized to 31.5” tires. I was running about 2” when I had my 33” tires and I liked how it...

    2002 Denali Camping Build

So, I think I have genuine GM lifter trays but after @Geotrash shared his experience I am doing my research. From all of the things I have seen online, I think I have genuine lifter trays. The trays do not have that shiny black plastic that I see on the knockoffs, but are gray in color and do...

    2002 Denali Camping Build

I have been playing with a program called Dynosym5 and have "built" my LQ4 and my proposed build to compare potential gains. I am estimating a 22% increase in my torque @ 3500 rpm and 38% increase in hp at 5500rpm in this re-build. My build is simulated with mild porting of the 243 heads and...

    2002 Denali Camping Build

@Geotrash, thanks for the clarification. I understand that the ASTM specifications allows for a reduction of the octane number based upon how high you are above sea level, and agree with the pre-ignition margins as you stated. What I am currently concerned about is how high my dynamic...

    2002 Denali Camping Build

I am using a Mahle head gasket that is 4.0 bore and a compressed thickness of 0.05”. The OEM piston compression height is 1.336”. I am estimating that the piston will be 0.005 above the deck. This will mean my quench will be 0.045. This should help prevent detonation because i can only get 91...

    2002 Denali Camping Build

The final piece for my build came today to help with my high altitude horse power. I purchased a new matched set of OEM LS2/LQ9 flat top pistons and balanced crank. I have gen 4 rods to round out the rotating assembly. I am converting my Lq4 into an iron block LS2. The crank is for a 2005...

    2004 6.0 NV4500 Tahoe

You may not need to do anything, I remember reading it was hit and miss if there was a restrictor installed or not. I know my mishimoto had a bushing installed so I did not have worry about it.

    2004 6.0 NV4500 Tahoe

I remember reading about this over on PT.net last year when I was looking for an aluminum radiator. One guy did the following “I machined it out of 3/8 aluminum rod. I punch a .188 hole in a slug ~.5" long, pushed it in with a socket on the degas bottle side of the hose and put it back on it”

I have been working on my new heads. I had some 243 heads decked at my machine shop. I did a bowl blend and then lapped the valves. purchased the full cam kit from Vinci, so I started installing the new valve seals getting ready for the dual springs. i need more cleaner before I install the...

@pwtr02ss I have been looking for excuses since i got this Denali. As you know, the "more power bug" is an epidemic and it only takes time before you start showing symtoms, "cough, cough, cough".

    2002 Denali Camping Build

I have heard nothing but rave reviews about Vinci Cams from my fellow NBS owners so that is where I turned first to get some advice on my build and pick a camshaft to meet my goals for this Denali. I can echo that Roger is amazing and is a wealth of knowledge. I explained to him my desire for a...
