2012 Yukon XLT with mystery rough idle and misfire codes

It sounds like these guys are a bit more forthcoming with the details of their diagnostics. A few things that still leave me a little cold. A lack of lift doesn't affect the seal of the valve. Lift is opening of the valve (unsealing), if you had no lift, you can still have a perfect seal...

    2014 Oil burn...

I think I just pulled the short rubber ends off the plastic hard line, I don’t think there were any clamps on those hose end bits. I then just used crimp style clamps on all four hose ends. Frankly I don’t think you need any clamps though, the hose goes on pretty snug and there isn’t any...

    2014 Oil burn...

This is the one I got, although it was about $25 cheaper when I got mine. It was literally a 15 minute job. I took the plastic hardline that runs between the PCV and the Manifold out and just added the hoses to each fitting in the proper direction. It has the air/oil separator section with...

Good reason to run a 6.2 on premium fuel

I ran the old gal way down and filled her up with Phillips 66 - 91 Ethanol Free (it took 22.8 gal, crimany it was like $110!). I have not found 93 anywhere here. I used the Tech 2 and did a recording of the knock sensors, etc., like I did with the E-10 87 and E85, the knock sensors seemed just...

    2014 Oil burn...

I am probably the wrong guy to ask as I bought a Moroso (which might be the most you can spend). :) I think there is a long catch can thread in this subform where guys post what they did. I think you probably can get one that will work great for like $30. If you can't find the thread, let me...

    2014 Oil burn...

No actually the PCV breather line goes to the top of the intake manifold. The TB is ahead of it, so the only oil you will get in the TB is if you are pulling it (pumping it) up through the clean air supply which is ahead of the TB. That would be suboptimal.

2012 Yukon XL Denali 6.2L Cam Swap Thread

I figured you might already have one of these, given your aviation experience, but if you don’t, I can put it in a box and ship it out to you. It makes very clean and short work of opening a filter. :)

    2014 Oil burn...

The 2014 already came with the updated valve cover and the AFM deflector. If it were me, I would install a catch can between your PCV and intake manifold (about a 15 minute job) and see if it is pumping oil out the PCV and into the intake. If not, then I would probably do a leak down test...

2012 Yukon XL Denali 6.2L Cam Swap Thread

I understand what you are saying, but from what I can tell the only damage you have is to the lifter rollers and cam lobes. Any oil carrying the debris from that area isn’t getting back into the pressure circuit going downstream. If there were internal damage to a lifter, then maybe that might...

Good reason to run a 6.2 on premium fuel

Yeah, seems I should have said "attached the pressure gauge to the Schrader...", we don't want to trigger anyone. :) Thanks for recording that. Do you run a stock tune? I am down to a few gallons in the tank and thought I might give some E10 91 a try (I planned to reset my idiot virtual...

The same online store has OE Y Pipe and cats for just under $800, about a months depreciation on a new rig. :)

Thinking about it some more, I think your fears of debris making it to the big bearings are probably unfounded. On the pressure side, I can’t think of a way the loose metal finds its way into the circuit. If the metal is small enough to stay suspended, I could see it getting pulled up through...

2012 Yukon XL Denali 6.2L Cam Swap Thread

I understand the concern on the mains. Not sure with these production engines if this is considered bad practice or not, but when I was racing, if we had some doubts about the lower end, we would pop the caps off and look for scuffs and scratches on the bearings. If everything looked OK, we...

    2012 Yukon Denali 6L80 Issues/Advice

It may come down to the fact that he does this stuff every day and knows what the nominal cost is going to be and knows the standard deviation he is dealing with, so can offer with confidence a complete package for $3300. From my perspective a GM reman is going to have everything to spec or...

    High mileage oil weight?

A good (timeless) question where I suspect there are only opinions with little in the way of serious empirical data to support any given point of view. My normal mileage profile these days is almost exactly two changes a year (roughly 10K). I may start running a little heavier range of...

    2012 Yukon Denali 6L80 Issues/Advice

I don’t think the advice you are getting on the longevity is correct. Many report double those mileages, I think to plan on 120K would be overly conservative.

    2012 Yukon Denali 6L80 Issues/Advice

My $.02 only. When it comes to used cars/trucks, the devil you know is almost universally better than the devil you don't. If it isn't rusting out, it will be cheaper to have it fixed as needed than suffer the $10K a year in depreciation a new one provides. If the alternative is a new Toyota...

I think you are nearly there. Just put the good stuff back into the top end and you almost certainly will be there. You know so much about how to optimize this very rig, don’t give up in the 9th inning! :)

I don’t wish any small business person ill, but when I go back and look at the chain of events, all I can say is you are a much better person than I. I would replace my fuel pump to make sure I made it all the way, driven to his place of business and shoved those lifter trays up where the sun...

2012 Yukon XL Denali 6.2L Cam Swap Thread

On the concern about floating stuff, I think I would replace the top end stuff, take a close look at the oil pump. I would keep a close eye on it cutting the filter apart and doing regular oil analysis to make sure the trends are in the right direction and call it good.

how difficult to add a second battery?

There are a few options on the how part. As @Sparksalot indicated you can run them in parallel, you can use an isolator so one would be your start battery and the other an accessory battery, etc. if you know what scenarios you want to address, there is a pretty simple install to accomplish...
