    2016 transmission replace/rebuild, reprogram?

Son's Sierra has the 6 speed transmission, 5.3 engine, just hit 100k miles. Transmission started a minor jerking at easy cruise, light acceleration, then let go completely. Fluid brown and smelled. But the question - Looks like a reman. unit has to have the TCM reprogrammed? If we take the...

First problem after one year on 2018 Yukon XL Denali

Replace all lifters with stock, disable the AFM. Probably run forever.

Alternator whine when powering roku [FIXED]

Most aftermarket stereos used to have a noise filter in the power line. I'd guess about any car stereo shop would have one, ether new or a used one laying around. They do work. This would not be a ground loop isolator.

Bridgestone tires. good or bad? My experience.

I wonder if those Bridgestones were energy saver tires? Those have about 8/32s tread depth new. Pretty much at the required replacement depth for a leased vehicle turn in I think. Hard to beat premium Michelin tires for sure.

Which Gas Grade to Use for the 5.3 Engine

I guess I'm old school on this but I think with the 11 : 1 compression ratio and getting 355 horsepower out of 326 cubic inches I want better gas in mine. I run at least mid grade and if I'm near a Sam's Club I fill up with their premium. I do get pretty good gas mileage on trips and see 80...

    Official oem/replica wheel thread

Wife saw a Tahoe with those same wheels, she really liked the way the sun reflected on the spokes while turning slow. I'd jump on a set of those if I could find them - reasonable.

    Accessory Drive Belt Maintenance?

Those small pulleys rotate at two or three times the RPM of the crank driver pulley so be sure to check those. Should rotate nice fluid smooth and quiet. Any doubt replace with a good name brand item. Not a good place for a cheap China bearing.

23 Tahoe High Country drivers side mirror got wacked, only broke the glass.

Put a new glass on a Cruze last week. Aftermarket replacement snapped right in and they have electrical connections like OE. Not sure they are available for the '23 models yet. Easy install.

Time for new battery, need info, 2019 Tahoe

Got it swapped out yesterday. Spent more time cleaning everything up than actually changing the battery. That's one heavy chunk too.

    Delco battery date coding?

I can decode most replacement brand batteries but this Delco has me stumped. Anybody know how these numbers work on a Delco?

Suggestions for code scanner tech tool?

Looking for a basic code scanner for the newer GM vehicles. I have the 2019 Tahoe, son has a 2017 with the same drive train. Not looking for bi-directional operation or to reprogram anything, just pull codes, reset SES, see live monitoring inputs. I see several that look good, priced right, but...

Oops, turned key on with MAF unplugged, service engine light on

It fixed itself. Took 5 restarts looks like. I need to be more careful when I do stuff to that machine. Probably need to get a scanner for this newer OBD sys. too. Son has a 2017 Sierra with the same drivetrain as the Tahoe. (See new post)

Oops, turned key on with MAF unplugged, service engine light on

Changing battery and air filter today. Hooked up 12 standby power while battery was unhooked but after I put the new air filter in I turned on the key to get mileage with the MAF unhooked. Now I see the service engine light on, also see the oil pressure was reading high on the first drive...

    Trans/Transfercase fluid change

If that trans fluid is not nice and red I'd change it. I'd want to see what's in the bottom of the pan too.

    Need help with power inverter

The inverter in our '19 is good for 400 watts I think. Still not near enough. Divide your watts by 12 and you'll see that little heat gun pulls a lot of amps in the car DC circuit.

Time for new battery, need info, 2019 Tahoe

I'm into 3rd gens myself, not much into racing though: On the Tahoe battery I'm thinking I'll stick with the OE conventional battery. This is our road/vacation machine and it has to be dependable.

Time for new battery, need info, 2019 Tahoe

For our 2019 Tahoe. OE battery is a 94RPG or H7 size flooded acid standard type battery. Looking at new batteries I see that for a few more dollars I can get the same physical sized AGM H7 with a better amp rating and better warranty (4 year free replacement). But I'm not really up to date on...

5.3 Guys, opinion on oil change intervals

I read somewhere that German oil specs are some different that over here in the US? Could have something to do with longer intervals for the German cars.

Front brakes both sides heating up and dragging

One thing you can try is get the brakes hot and dragging, open a bleeder and see if you get a spurt of fluid. That would point to a restriction in the lines rather than a mechanical binding. See this in motorcycles pretty often.

Is it possible to keep truck too long?

Some of this depends on where you live. Up north in the rust belt, maybe time to let go. Southern areas maybe spend some money to get it up to par and drive it another 100k. Does your machine have the cylinder de-activation deal? Any work done on that setup? That could soon lead to an...

    Too much rust?

Critical points for rust are at the body supports where there are the rubber cushions that sit on the frame. The supports that are part of the floor boards can rust and darn near impossible to actually repair. Also look at the frame cross members that can get seriously rusted too, mostly in the...

I thought I blew up my transmission because my truck would not move …….

Kind of amazes me the torque values on some of these bolts and nuts. Old days just pull it tight and run it, 150 ftlbs is more than "tight."
