    duramax 3.0 fuel additive

I’ve been driving diesels a lot longer, and there were times when lubricating properties of the newer (at that time) fuels didn’t meet the needs of older equipment. This is not that time, and modern engine components were designed for these more highly refined fuels. Additives only empty your...

Does anyone make hose pliers large enough for the filler neck hose?

Yeah, get the right tool and it makes working on spring clamps a snap.

Fuel Pump Control and Trailer Brake control module combo WTF?

I don’t see any connection to the fuel pump in that schematic. Perhaps there’s a typo in the document? Edit: figured out later it’s likely a multi-purpose module that can be used in more than one function. Just like a relay, only more complex. What do trailer brakes and fuel pumps have in...

    New Member/2009 Tahoe SSV

I think you’ve mixed up PPV and SSV, which happens all the time around here. SSV on this generation are not pursuit rated and definitely have speed limiters.

How do thieves circumvent the passlock theft deterrent?

I don’t know the answer to your question, but if you’re looking for a simple inexpensive theft prevention measure just install a hidden switch to kill power to the fuel pump or ignition coil circuit. They can crank until hell freezes over and it’ll never start.

Fuel Pump Control and Trailer Brake control module combo WTF?

Who says it is? I replaced the FPCM on mine, had nothing to do with trailer functionality. I’ll be interested to see if this is actually true in some vehicles or just a misunderstanding.

Can a '97 Chevy Tahoe with a 6" lift on 35's fit through a standard 7' high garage door opening?

You can do a significant amount of adjustment using the keys, however too much (and I’d call 2” too much) will leave you with a terrible ride because the suspension has little travel left in one direction. I recently helped diagnose and correct a lifted 2500 with that exact issue. It rode rough...

Can a '97 Chevy Tahoe with a 6" lift on 35's fit through a standard 7' high garage door opening?

There will be differences between different lift brands insofar as exactly what the lift amount is. Plus lots of variance in height between individual vehicles at stock height due to different OEM suspension packages. BDS is in a whole different class of product than the other two mentioned...

2003 Tahoe coolant system leak or head gasket leak?

Use a combustion gas tester on the cooling system. Only costs about $50.

    Goodbye autocrap246

I think you accidentally posted in the section for 2015-2020 models. I am a fan of manual levers myself. In all fairness to GM I don’t think the 246 is a bad box, they’re pretty durable. Just a handful when the electronic gremlins strike. It would be helpful to future readers to add some more...

    Plugs dirty after 800 miles

How many miles on it? What’s your fuel economy like? And looking at the fuel trims is excellent advice. Injector cleaner aka Techron if there’s any indication of running rich. On that topic, is it getting up to temperature on typical drives, and is the coolant temp sensor working properly? Too...

Stock Suspension advice 2014 Tahoe LT 4x4

My SSV came to me with Monroe struts, apparently they were good enough for government work (install by CBP). I found the highway ride with stock tires and suspension unremarkable, seemed stock. Nothing to brag about nor complain about. Due to all the supply problems last year I couldn’t get...

Stock Suspension advice 2014 Tahoe LT 4x4

I’d probably go OEM myself if you’re looking for a smooth ride. I used to be a big fan of Bilstein, and still like them for certain applications. But I finally found in my research they like to do digressive valving, which gives a firmer on road ride. But makes small road imperfections felt...

Yeah, it’s important in critical applications to pay attention to the directions on things like dry vs lubed threads.

2010 Tahoe LT w/ 67k Buy or No?

I’m curious what drives you to trade a newer Honda with similar mileage for this? Regarding the rust, use something that penetrates and seeps in like oil or wax products. WoolWax or Fluid Film are just a couple of products you can DIY, and there are commercial applicators using those or similar...

    Please help!!

I hate to see you just keep firing parts at it, you can install a faulty part or incorrectly install a good one and just keep chasing in circles. What about the radiator, I didn’t see a mention. Could be partially clogged. I would disconnect the heater core and both test the flow through it to...

Under hood temps in Phoenix AZ. Cowl hood or vents?

Paging @Sparksalot . He’s done it. It seems to me that they must help, but I don’t know by how much. Considering the amount of airflow through the radiator and front fan, you’d need big vents for a significant temperature drop in the engine bay I think. I don’t think the engine per se suffers...

AFM Piston Soak / Top Cleaner

Not this engine, but I have successfully cleaned stuck rings in other engines by pulling the plugs and top soaking the pistons. I’d give it a shot.

    FLAT TOWING A 2018 ESCALADE

“Failure to disconnect the negative battery cable or to have it contact the terminals can cause damage to the vehicle.” From the manual. That seems quite clear. I used to tow a 2020 GM truck. ISTR it had to do with active safety systems or electronic power steering or something like that. You...

Read the manual, it’s available online. You can read engine hours in the dash, a DIC is not required. I don’t recall the exact sequence, sorry, but I think you just cycle through the display with key on engine off. Use the trip meter switch. Mine had over 10,000 hours and 62k miles when I...
