There are just some days I wish I didn't turn wrenches

I was thinking it was a bit of a beater. But I'm probably confusing it with another Ford truck you've mentioned. I get it, though. Mine is only two years newer and I'd replace the engine and/or trans as needed before getting something else. Well, maybe not if I had to pay someone else to do...

I did. He had some troubles on the journey and, AFAIK, is home. I thought he'd have checked in and updated by now. Maybe I should bug him again.

Growing up doesn't have to suck

Made some LED puddle lights. Got these COB panels off ebay for $6. They're attached to an aluminum plate, which I shaved a little with a flap disc on a grinder so they'd fit the housings: Spare puddle light housing I used for mock-up. The originals were thoroughly cleaned before I put...

    6L80 Dipstick loose?

I think it's an age thing and the rubber compresses from staying in that position for so long. So a junkyard piece would likely be the same unless it was replaced before the car was junked. As much as I enjoy browsing the junkyard, the washer fix cost me nothing but a few minutes of my time.

    6L80 Dipstick loose?

Say wha..? Maybe the 4L60 parts are more scarce than the 6L80 parts these days. I only found a few that were supposedly in stock and they were pushing $50 or more, before shipping (part #15791230). I bought a Dorman for $27 but then fixed mine for free with a washer. The Dormans have a few...

Build Log: Down8's Tahoe Has a Nickname

I've thought about it. My "Tahoe Twin" buddy has a Graystone '09 that he had repainted and left the BSMs off. It's a clean look. But I keep thinking it's too plain. The previous body style was more rounded and no BSMs looks better on them. Our body style has some edges and angles to it and...

    Trans Pan removal

This Y-pipe? Persuaded to cooperate: :yaoface2: I recall it being tight, but not very difficult. But, mine is a 4L60E so the space constraints are probably different than the OP's 6L80E. I also have a lift so I can easily use prybars and/or lengths of 2x4, which is what I might have...

5.3 Gen 4 flex fuel afm dod delete need help

I'm sure he meant a GM factory cam that would be a non-AFM alternative to your stock AFM cam. There are a couple factory cams that are really close and should run "fine" on the stock tune, but could use a slight amount of tweaking to be optimal. Custom tuning is expensive and those cams aren't...

    Upgrading from LS interior.

I've seen a few posts here of people wanting to trade their captains for a bench and vice versa, but usually in the GMT900 generation. Due to the material and color options, you'd be searching for a needle in a haystack to find someone wanting a cloth bench in your color. I'd hit up a salvage...

    Wanted 86-93 Mustang Notchback

$650 to ship is a deal if it's legitimate. As for the sight unseen factor- I'd guesstimate a one-way flight, fuel, food and hotel would be right in the middle at around $1,000 if the car was roadworthy and you were up for a 2-3 day road trip. Lots of uncertainties there that make the shipping...

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Exactly. Thank you. It's on the radar! I'm keeping the spare one in the console with me with a regular bulb in it to swap in to get a "stock" pic for comparison. Didn't know that. They'd have to be really ****** to fail with the few seconds of use during the 1-2 times a week I drive this...

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Was a few days ago, but I made some LED puddle lights for my mirrors. Yes, they have some plug-and-play for ~$25 but I like COB LEDs and got a pair of these COB panels for $6. The white part is an aluminum plate. They come with foam double-sided mounting tape on the back, which I peeled off...

Want to take my 2010 Yukon XL Denali with 180,000 miles for a family trip from Michigan To Florida - Can you help me make this a success!

I'd say that the most likely, and probably worst result would be inaccurate alcohol content calculating leading to worse fuel economy without the full benefit of the E85. Nothing detrimental. I don't know the prices of fuels in your area. But, primarily running premium otherwise, I'd bet that...

    Catch can flow discussion

Probably. I've seen it on the 2014+ Ecotecs but never studied the routing and flow. I'm referring to the Gen3 and Gen4 engines. That's a GenV engine. I guess I'm too old school.

What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

The GMT800s have it cheap and easy as far as the Big 3 goes. The battery and alternator are all near each other. I don't think there are any differences for the engine sizes in the GMT900s. AFAIK, there are just the two fuse locations, requiring that extra positive cable on the earlier versions.

    PM on exhaust manifold bolts?

If it were me, I would. Although, I wouldn't remove the stock ones, add anti-seize then reinstall. I'd replace them with ARP. Just do your due diligence when breaking the original ones loose- treat them as if they're older and could be seized. You can't be too careful. Knock on 'em with a...
