Honestly if it was me, id just grab a good used 5.3 with low miles, replace the rear main seal and get rid of the vlom/afm system and call it a day. You’ll have less down time. Im sure you dont want to take the engine out of the truck but at this point you just have to rip the bandaid off.
This is the kind of stuff I am talking about. There is always that risk of self-inflicted problems that crop up when you try to tackle things proactively. And for those situations, i like to have no time pressure.
With a 3 month and 2.5 year old, i have very limited time and really need to plan for something like this. I already ordered the valley gasket and vlom plug from crazedperfoemancerepair and will plan on doing this when I get home. Thanks for the feedback!
I already got the front two, you mean pull the intake? Never having done this, approx how long does it take? I know id need intake seals…checking local autozone.
Hi All,
Headed for our first road trip in the yukon tomorrow. Done a ton of prep for this incl:
Oil pan pickup tube o ring replaced
Afm disabled with black bear tune
Rear end oil changed
Transmission pan dropped, filter changed and fluid replaced.
Just on a whim I checked my front vlom bolts...
This was yesterday and a few days ago, but got 4 new tpms installed in my craigslist score wheelset, got the truck inspected and installed a new brake switch so hopefully cruise control works now. Dropped the spare to make sure it worked, aired to spec and painted the rim with some rustoleum...
Pretty much where I am now, and almost the same list of repairs. Never having owned anything larger than an X3 I have to say I am loving this truck, and gas prices are livable with e85 and the fact that it is a 3rd car.
It was a thread for an 07 - i just didnt realize it. Pretty sure if your truck is running fine and RA says its the one then its the one ill stick with.
Damn that looks great! Been putting off a full detail, but with the mechanical stuff done (for now) it might be time. Did you remove the door cladding? If so what did it take? I assume some combo of hair dryer and fishing line...
Actually an 09 - I was reading a prior thread and the 0816 was recommended. Didn't realize first year models used a different pump. Have since added the 1054 into the cart. Thanks for the tips!
Damn TUV making everything complicated! Thats why on X5s there are like 30 different rear bumper combinations, because they have to allow for some vehicles to have fender lip extensions for 315 section rear tires.
Hi all,
Noticed fuel smell coming from drivers rear wheel well. Read all about pump replacement already and plan to do that soon. Wanted to see if there was anything I am missing tool or parts wise BEFORE I get to the middle of the install. Right now I have the pump Delphi FG0816 for Flex Fuel...
Interesting, I was always against going with a drop spindle because I still wanted to use the stock 17s for a winter wheel and tire setup. I'd be very interested to feedback from others who have run it.
