I was having the same problem with a Bronco I owned - went to Home Depot and got a couple pvc pipe couplers and installed them in the oem cupholder - worked well.
On the previous generation there was an electrical connector right underneath the very top of the dash that would tap/rattle - the fix was to open the dash and put something between the two like thin foam padding.
If you tow a lot it is worth it for the HD cooling options. it looks like the axle ratio is 3.23 across the board for everything. It also comes with a trailer brake controller which could come in handy.
I had almost the same truck - a 93 Z71 - those TBI trucks are some of the best trucks GM ever built, heavy steel frames that really absorbed road harshness.
