@Fless it's an older USB to RS232c from Radio Shack. It's running well on a laptop (Lenovo T510) I picked up from the local value Village for $25. Dropped in an SSD and Windows 7 and It's good to go!
The only "booboo" I just did was to inadvertently downgrade the software on the Tech2 to...
Well as they say ... "There goes the weekend!" (In a good way)
I have the new cluster from Texas installed
Clock Spring has arrived
Tech2 is sitting in my hands now. Having some communication issues but I'm chalking it up to an older USB adapter hacked to Windows 11 not passing through to the...
I haven't done this yet as I'm the wheel has already been built, but here's a thought (Since my rear power locks on the gate is acting up). I wonder how hard it would be to just add in a little slider inside the gate to "Lock/Unlock" the latch.l
I know I can get "pull the plastic and fiddle"...
I've got all the option codes but one I couldn't figure out was this. How do you determine the interior seat colour? Mine is one of those mix colour velour looking things and I just need to order in a clean set from Rock Auto for the third seat.
But since I'm dropping $200 plus, I'd sort of...
@Rocket Man Yup the mileage is a part of the process when you buy this cluster, send in current KM (or my guess since it would be a 3 week ship, guesstimate how much I'll drive in 3 weeks), specify if steering wheel has the hands free controls and of course model of truck
Yep very familiar with good old 30minute passlock learn.
So in theory, let's say I have a BCM already programmed with a different VIN from another truck with all the needed features
I have a dashboard shipped to me with all the goodies that the steering controls require turned on (Found a...
I might be in luck for some testing, I have a BCM from a 2003 Tahoe with equal or more body options than my 2006 Suburban which the Wheel came out of. In "Theory" this could just plug in and work with the exception of the Dashboard which I believe still needs a code flash to work with the new...
If you have a Tech2 alone you cannot flash I am guessing, needs the software on WinXP or the TIS2web ($$$) to connect up to GM to download the goodies then.
So the Tis2Web is a part of this?
So the process (correct and safest would be)
Wire up Clock Spring
Get a Clean BCM
Use Tech2 to download configuration using a VIN
Flash BCM and Dash
Something like that?
Good idea.... nice and simple.
Any thoughts on the cluster? From the videos I've seen it seems that the cluster gets flashed by GM (Programmed / Software Updated)
Unless somebody can confirm there is a physical change in the hardware.
Of course a lot of this may in the land of theory I am...
That is true. The example of how to trip the "Custom controls" by grounding off wires does not work on my Cluster. I have been told it's a matter or paying for the option at the Dealer and enabling it....
Does that make sense?
I went and hit up the Boneyard and found a Doner ClockRing I can solder up with the other Clockring. Also to test, I scooped out the BCM of a Tahoe that has the same features as my Suburban if not more (it has the steering wheel controls). Ideally I can test things out with this BCM and be...
Once I get to that level, I will look into writing up an FAQ on "Updating your BCM with new options" if one does not exist already.
for Potential VINS with options I did find AutoTrader.com on the US side is ripe with models and vin's pre-posted. Some ads are incredibly detailed.
I guess the...
So finding a 2007 Suburban loaded with all the options I need (at least INCLUDING my set) would be a good start for the BCM then? But if the BCM is already programmed with a VIN will that cause an issue?
*or* is it that the Tech 2 connects up with the VIN, downloads the necessary binary code...
Ah so it's like my friend mentioned. I need to find a 2006 Suburban with all of my base options *and* the ones I want then... (or YukonXL,EscaladeXL) and "Borrow the vin" for the programming.
....and now the challenge. Anybody got a 2006 Suburban *with* the controls on the wheel? ;)
I did...
Future upgrade for my 2006 Suburban 2500. Pulled from a 2003 Chevy Tahoe (and yep, I've used some of it's bits to put other woodgrain in the truck. I kinda like it :)
If this would be useful to anybody in the forum, I translated the PDF file with all the RPO codes into an Excel sheet which allows you to drop in a list of RPO code on the "Source Car Sheet" and translate their options.

I left my...
So I'm not sure if this will help others but somebody posted on Amazon what appears to be the complete "RPO" code list. It's a PDF file so it can be saved locally.

And yeah, that video I've seen @jwth. I did a quick test and of course my DIC doesn't respond this way since yep.... it needs a flash. I will definitely ping later on the codes once I get the Tech2 next month. My buddy (and former owner of the Suburban) is a certified mechanic no longer in...
