What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

So I'm over 210k miles and I hear that drone/whine coming from the rear end when I take my foot off the pedal going downhill. Also a little on accelerating. The rear end was re-done at 125k miles (according to my uncle who owned the truck before me). So I figure it was (or partly was) the...

Any tips on best way to swap the steering wheel buttons?

I replaced some buttons in my wheel without taking it off and it was a serious PITA. Later on I swapped in a new wheel and when the wheel was off, removing the buttons was simple. I would take the wheel off even if I just needed to swap buttons. If you're just looking to fix the button...

Pioneer DMH-W2770NEX went in, along with backup camera. Wireless Apple Carplay is super-nice. Really glad I dropped the $ to get it.

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Oh and a couple more things I noticed on those long stretches of flat smooth highway: Even a slight difference in the front tire pressures will cause a noticeable pull to the left or right. The Tru-cool max 40k transmission cooler works great. I just had a new tranny installed and sustained...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Returned from the cross country adventure. 10,500 miles in 33 days. 22 states, 13 National Parks, 3 Zoos, 1 flat tire. All those miles on highways, local roads, dirt roads (where I managed to puncture a tire) had led me to the conclusion that its time for a new front end. I am thinking upper...

    Need Advice on brake parts

If he says "Everything" I am guessing he means all the brake lines, (9-11 of them), the calipers, rotors, and pads. The new stainless lines go for about 120 for the whole set, but installing them in a b*tch, which I can easily see a mechanic charging an arm and a leg for. I did it myself but it...

    Fender flares and side moulding

I've heard that they don't always come off easy. I know my uncle is looking for a set of black flares for his Yukon XL.

Gas Tank Strap Rusted Off. Now What?

Maybe some heavy duty galvanized pipe strapping?

Will I have to worry about an ABS bleed if I replace the rear brake line?

The key cycle trick worked for me when I got air into the ABS. No off-roading necessary and single bleeding session instead of 2.

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

The manager at Autozone specifically told me that the "Limited" part of the warranty means they will only replace it one time. F*ckers. If it fails again I am not going to go back and argue with them for a $40 solenoid that failed twice. I'll end up getting it somewhere else, and hopefully a...

What's a good year? Or one to avoid?

I look for 05-06 when I go browsing. My 05 Tahoe is almost at 200k now and I am going NY -> CA and back next month. I'm not expecting any troubles (excepting maybe gas riots). I've been doing regular upgrades and maintenance on the truck as well (recently got a new tranny) and I am confident...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

My evap leak came back, wracking my head trying to figure out what it is. Decide to check the purge valve, even though I just replaced it last year. Yep. Bad. 1 year and 1 month. Thanks Dorman. Luckily I had my receipt from Autozone so they swapped it with a new one. "Just one time though" they...

    Stock-ish wheel color question

The pot-hole aspect is a really good point. Roads around here are so bad I need all the help I can get to keep those impacts from shaking the rest of the vehicle apart. 17s sounds just about right.

    Stock-ish wheel color question

My rims were looking bad (not that bad, but close). I took a twisted wire wheel and my angle grinder and went to town. I pulled off the balancing weights and just wire wheeled all the rust and crap away and it gave it a slight brushed metal look. I sprayed them with some clear coat when I was...

    05 Tahoe Steering issues

I had this issue and it was my alignment. Supposedly my alignment was good so I searched long and wide for why my 05 tahoe would wander all over the highway. I replacement my pitman arm and idler arm, adjusted the steering gear box, and wasted a bunch of time looking everywhere for it...

Right, so finding the magic angle to give you increased control without sacrificing treadwear is the key. I'll ride around for a few days at 3/4 turn and see if its any better, and if not go back to 1/2.

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

This looks like how I had it sorted when I decided to one day figure out how all that stuff went back in. Same day I discovered (in the manual I think) a method of using the jack to free the spare tire if the winch malfunctions. You end up stacking the jack on the wheel chocks and using it to...

4 Piston Big Brake Upgrade from 2019-20

My rims have a lot of coverage and don't make for pretty shots, also the aesthetic of my vehicle is a work in progress. Here is the other side: And here is a clearance shot. !

4 Piston Big Brake Upgrade from 2019-20

There is an unthreaded section at the top of the lug, as well as an unthreaded section at the top of the nut, so I had to device a method to accurately get these measurements. Here is what I did. First I put the nut on the stud to where the first thread would catch. Then I measured the depth of...

Reduced wandering was what I was after. With zero toe I noticed that wind could blow me around on the highway, and road aberrations sent me off-course more than I liked. The 1/2 rotation cleaned that up nicely. I am gonna go another 1/4 each and see how that is.

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Last time I did my alignment I set my wheels dead center, zero toe. Last night I decided to toe-in the wheels to see how it handled. As expected, it handled much nicer with a slight toe-in, especially noticeable at highway speeds. I did 1/2 of a rotation of the tie-rod on each wheel. Does...

4 Piston Big Brake Upgrade from 2019-20

Started my big brake upgrade today. I knew I was in for trouble but I like challenges. So I have the stock 17" Z71 rims. In order to get the calipers to fit I had to grind down the ridge on the top of the calipers, as some others have done, and I needed a 1/4" wheel spacer. I don't care for...

I've done that soldering job on 2 clusters now and its a pain. Super small surface mount resistors on the board and sometimes it's difficult to see which one is the culprit, and you end up re-soldering all of them. But hey if you're going to all that trouble you might as well solder in some...

I like the white gauges. Very visible. I sometimes turn on my lights during the day because I can't read my gauges. Taking the cluster out to adjust your needles is a pretty straightforward.
